HELP! How Can I tame his bad breath? My Yorkichon, Blackjack has the worst doggy breath ever, I tried sprays, brushing, mints...what can I do seriously. My family calls him dragon breath...I feel so bad :( Help please  |
My girl Glory also has extremely bad breath. Someone suggested to me that I go have her teeth checked out either to see if 1) an animal died in there or 2) to see if there is some building of tartar or plaque that is causing the odor. My mom sells this stuff you put in their water that is supposed to taste pretty good and melts plaque and tartar, but before I spend the money for it, I want to make for sure that I actually need it. It will be interesting to see what everyone else has to advise. |
Bella only had bad breath while teething. We use Petzlife now |
PS. Sorry just saw you are new. Welcome to YT!! |
If it has reached the level of dragon breath you need to take him to the vet. Not only can it be something like tartar build up or gingivitis, which can cause tooth loss, if left untreated (just like with humans) it can affect other parts of the body. Bacteria can enter the blood stream and spread to the heart, liver or kidneys. Preventive care can add years to your dog's life. Welcome to YT. :) |

Pixie has terrible breath. LIke something did die in there. I took her to the vet last week as her gums were red and puffy. We decided to try brushing religiously every day and I am using Petzlife as well. So I know I have been lax in this area,, so every night I get the grooming table out and they all get their teeth brushed. In just one week, Pixie's gums have shown improvement as well as her teeth. But her breath still is horrible. I am going to Petco to look for additional/different products. |
Meeko's breath has gotten horrible! I'm assuming, well more like hoping, it's just because he's in the middle of losing his baby canine and molars. But it's awful. I guess if smells like he just hate a fish? Is that what your babies breath smelt like when they were losing their teeth? I'm trying to work on brushing his teeth, but he HATES it. We're starting slow and hopefully he start to get use to it. Anyway thanks for the post, i'll be checking back for advice! |

 good posting information. |
Have the milk teeth been removed? Yorkies often don't lose them on their own, and the two sets of teeth can cause food build up, infection, and stinky breath. |

If Meeko likes to play tug of war that might help them fall out. Keep brushing. He may always hate it but he'll learn to accept that it is going to be done whether he likes it or not. Small dogs are prone to teeth problems so it is important to brush. Thanks, urbnalbino and Carol. :) |
Wow Thanks! Thanks for all the info, hopefully it'll help him, he does have 2 rows of teeth I always thought it could be the reason to the dragon breath...Im going to try that "Petzlife" thing. :thumbs up |

You need to get the baby teeth removed because Petzlife will not help if he has two rows of teeth. Mine used to have that problem when he was teething and has two rows of teeth. |
