Food Question! Hello, I'm a little bit concerned about my pup, she is 13 weeks and I changed her from puppy chow to orijen, I mix the dry orijen with innova puppy canned food and I see her maybe having some stomach problems she farts stinky which she didn't do before, she itches every now and then and I don't know if it may be the food. What should I do? Should I worry? I do not know if orijen is the best but I saw it on the dogfoodanalisys.... Thanks a lot.... |
how fast did you change this diet??? Quote:

Any time you switch to another food, you need to transtion them very slowly...a complete switchover should take from a week to 10 days. If tummy upset occurs, back off the new food a little and start over. Gradually mix in the new food with the old food and replace it very slowly. Hope that helps! Welcome to YT too! :) |
I did, I started by adding little bits of dry orijen with the puppy chow for maybe 2 weeks, and for the can she has been eating that from the beginning. Quote:

the itching could be food How fast and what is in the first one. the second one is high protien. there are lots of food threads. may be you could start over. boiled chicken white meat no skin and rice. give her that for a few days. then start with one food see how that goes for a week.mix it in to the chicken little then more slowly till you see if she has a allergy. |
when did she start itching Quote:

Be sure and read the ingredients on everything. Make sure there is no corn, no wheat and no by-products. The corn and wheat have no nutritional value and can cause allergies...the by-products are the parts of animals that aren't used for anything else and aren't healthy for the babies. Maybe your baby is allergic to something in the Orijen since it is new to her... I would suggest going back to whatever you were feeding her before the tummy upset and start over. She may just be super sensitive and need an even longer transition. Good luck  |

Now if I do the orijen by itself any good ideas of what I can mix it with so she wont get tired of the same flavor every day? Maybe some veggies or something, sorry for all the questions it is hard to see when your puppy is not doing too good....... I wish she could tell me jijijiji |

What kind of orijen are you feeding her? Orijen is a 6 star food. It's an excellent food (you were right to change the food), however there might be too much protein for her in the food. Protein is difficult to digest. How is her bowel movement? You can also try Holistic Transition by Eagle Pack, this will help you to transition the food, it contains acidophilus and some digestive enzymes. You should mix a little of the new food, the puppy chow and the Transition powder... with each serving increase the new food and decrease the other two. A good puppy food is Solid Gold Hundchen Flocken Puppy (lamb). Do not put too much of the wet food just enough to give it a little flavor. You can also make chicken broth, use half of chicken breast two cups of water 3 or four baby carrots and half a stem of celery. Do not add salt or anything else. Just wet her food a bit. Try it, it has worked with all my other dogs! To be honest I have found that Greta doesn't like to eat too much either. Good luck! |

Lettuce Carrot (raw or cooked) Bell peppers Zuccini (cooked or I guess you could give it raw) Give whatever looks right. I'd give maybe 2-4 tablespoons a day but if this will be the only moisture added to Orijen, I'd give even more moisture. |
