Concerns about summer..... please can you advise me Hi everyone As summer is not far away, I have a couple of concerns as a new dog owner. Tootsie LOVES sunshine and I have to 'rescue' her from sunstroke in spring as she just lies there and bakes and bakes!!!. He little tongue hangs out and she is panting frantically, but she won't get up and move to a shady spot. If she does this in summer when the sun is much hotter, should she have a sunscreen on her tummy ( she sometimes lies on her back) and a sunscreen spray on her hair? If so which ones are the best for her. Also, how long is too long to let her 'sunbathe' in summer? My other concern is that Tootsy is fascinated by bees and gets right up to them sniffing them. I am worried that in summer she will get stung either on her nose or her tongue. How would I treat this? We also have wasps here in the summer and their sting is even more painful! She is very into 'wildlife' it seems, as she is fascinated by frogs, beetles fish etc etc, too! I know I am being a 'worrywort' but I can't help myself! Luv Franceen xx |
Summer I don't know if this will help. But I take Jack for walks but in Texas it gets sticky hot. So either early in the morning or late in the evening. Hope this helps some. Cheryl:cool: |
my Roxy could be outside forever. The warm sun is her friend after a long cold winter, but she knows when she really needs shade or water. I bet your girl does too |
This site has a sunscreen for dogs http://www.doggles.com/health.html |
1 Attachment(s) When we are out in the sun like at the beach, I take a water bottle for bella. I make her drink often. If we are home in the yard she always heads for the shade |
Thanks so much for these replies. I have been searching the internet today and found my answers!!! I never expected to get all the answers but I did. Here is the web site address for anyone else who may have these concerns: http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet...mer_safety.htm Thanks again for the replies. Luv Franceen xx |
I also keep a kiddie pool out. If i think Layla is too warm i dunk her. It is usually luke warm but it cools her body down. Layla is NOT a big drinker so i try chicken broth mixed with water (straight up is too much salt i think) or apple sauce frozen.. or on a SPECIAL day... yogurt that i have frozen :) |
I also have a small little 'one ring' pool out for Oliver. He jumps right in and lays down, even goes over on his side. Otis won't get in the pool so I put him in the big one to cool off. They are both black so they get very hot very quickly. I make them come in and cool down often. |
When we go on the beach we bring doggie tent for Maxi so if he wants to be in the shade he goes there. He likes to go under my big chair sometimes too. I also bring water bottle with me.:) |
