Has anyone else heard.... about a vet not wanting to pull baby teeth and the same time as being spayed? The teaching vet college is saying that they won't pull teeth at the same time as spaying because of the bacteria in the mouth and fear of them licking the incision and causing an infection. Wouldn't the bacteria be there whether the teeth were pulled or not?? |
They shouldn't be licking the incision anyway. Don't they use e-collars (or onesies)? I'd do both together. |
Tessa is having both done next week because I don't want her put under anymore than necessary. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.:) |
No, I've never heard of it either and you are right...the bacteria would be in her mouth whether she is spayed at the same time or not. Is there another vet you can check with before having the spay done? |
I am actually going to call a few vets around here in the morning and see what they say. Tessa is being spayed and having her teeth pulled at the same time next week 'cause I won't put her under more than once. |
Chelsea had bother done and not a problem. I didn't but a cone on her, I was with her all weekend after it was done, watched her very careful. |
No - our vets recommend any necessary teeth pulling during spay or neutering so they don't need to go under more than once. |
