Looking for advice on treats I have a 20 week old female and I need to know what is a good treat to give for reinforcement when training. She is doing great on the house training but a couple of weeks ago I decided I should give a little treat after she took care of business out in the yard. I have been using small pieces of "Alpo Variety Snaps" for this. I'm afraid these might be a little heavy for puppy tummy. Three times now she has thrown them up 20 minutes or so after munching them down, She also started to show an affinity for eating grass after I started using them. I don't know if it is true or not, but around here the "old wives tale" says a dog will eat grass if it has an upset tummy. Is there anything available in the run of the mill grocery store that I can use for treats that might be better? I see mention for Ginger Snaps for car sickness. Would these work as general treats? She also is having a little problem riding in the truck with sickness. |
We mostly use Yorkie Yummies which are great(http://www.foxypups.com). We also use cheerios, ziwi (recommended by gray), and natural choice crunchy treats. |
I found these treats called Natural Minnies by Zukes. I get the salmon flavored ones. They are really small and easy to break in half. All mine love them and they are good for them. I found them at a feed store and a small pet store. I'm not sure if Petsmart etc. carry them but they work great. |
Ginger Snaps are okay for car sickness, but I wouldn't make a habit of using them otherwise because they do have sugar in them, so it wouldn't be the healthiest choice. How about bits of boiled, white meat chicken (no fat, no skin and no seasoning)? Or pieces of banana, apple (peeled), watermelon, green beans (cooked), potato or sweet potato (peeled and cooked)? |
I use Yorkie Yummies, cheerios, or bits of apple. |
I kinda like what I see on the Yorkie Yummies. I believe I will order some and try them out. She didn't care much for the Cherrios. Thanks for the advice. |
Yorkie Yummies are Treat #1 here!! but we also use Bichon Fries (dried sweet potatoe) which i cut up into lots of tiny pieces,,,they love em!:animal-pa |
