Raw Hide ok??? Hi everyone:-) So I am still new with my puppy Deegan who is now 12 weeks. So I had been reading that Raw Hide isn't safe for puppies? I had been giving him these little raw hide sticks- which he absolutely loves- is this bad? |
Rawhide isn't safe for any dog. Neither are Greenies or Nylabones. Bully Sticks may be the safest as far as obstructions go but once the dog chews on it and gets a soggy, a very dangerous bacteria starts to grow. I don't use any of it. |
I think most of us have done the samething but eventually learned that it is not good for them to have. Greenies or nylabones either. You can not trust what the manufacturers tell you on the label. Read the small print on the back of the packages! A natural beef bone is the best to give your pup to chew. They can be purchased in any pet store and are usually around the bins with all the rawhides etc. They are white and have a whole running down the length of the bone. You can also stuff alittle cheese, peanut butter or some chicken in it to keep him happy. Make sure you get a small one so his mouth will fit around it. Good luck and welcome to YT. |
Are Dingos considered rawhideS?? |
Thanks Thank you everyone, I had no idea they were so bad. Thanks:-) |

100% beef tendons I have been feeding Chelsea since day one, I'm sure pet stores have that in the states. Some come braided, which take them about two weeks to a month to get though it. They have single which take a day or two to eat. We have PetPlanet in Alberta Canada and they get their stuff from California. Their beef tendons are all 100% natural no hormones, etc., some are baroque, which I wouldn’t recommend as Chelsea get sick. |
I didn't know nylabones were bad? I was buying them because they have the digestible ones. How did I miss this!! I know rawhides, greenies, and even pigears are no-nos, whats bad about the nylabones? |
I do not feed Nylabones. Isn't it made of plastic? |

I don't know about the digestible ones but having a very bad experience with the original nylabones I would'nt buy anything that had that label on it! If they are digestible do you count that as food during the day? |
we dont DO rawhides,, only occasional greenies but do occasional CET HEXTRA chews,, all under supervision :animal-pa |
Here is a thread about the Healthy Naturals and there are lots more about the regular ones: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=105483 |

No of course not, that would be worse then counting treats as part of their daily meals, do people do that? They are chews, but say either digestible or edible on them, they don't break apart, but are supposed to be safer if any pieces do break off and are swallowed. |

Geez I missed that one! How scary. These kinds of chews are just plain dangerous IMO. It always amazes me how YT'ers recall these things. Thanks. |
