dvp natures balance
 
just started all my dogs on the dve natural balance ultra premium small bites
the boys are doing fine, and pepper is peeing and pooping but I have noticed she doesn't eat near as much or as often. will the primium dog food as compared to iams take longer to digest thus making her feel full longer thus eat less?? I'm not sure if she is being picky or not or just not hungry. she is 22 wks old.

If your talking about the DVP natural balance, my pup eats that and he eats maybe 1/4 cup twice a day but it depends. He almost always goes potty within 30 minutes after eating.

At 22 weeks old your puppy is teething and they will slow down eating their hard food during that time. Try putting a little warm water over hers to let it soften before she eats to see if that helps.

her front teeth are in as are her lower canines, upper canines still puppy teeth(she looks like a vampire) and the molars are falling out and a couple are in already thanks for the advise.

Natural Balance is a better quality food than Iams. If I am not mistaken, Iams has a lot of corn and grains in it and not as much quality protein. When dogs are fed poor quality foods they will eat more because they are not being satisfied. Dogs also poop more when on poor quality food because of all the undigestable filllers in them. I think you did good getting her off the Iams. As long as she is eating and is at a good weight then she should be fine.

I haven't weighed her lately but about a 6 wks ago she weighed in at 5 lbs 3 oz at 16 weeks. I'm sure she weighs close to 6 lbs now or more at 22 wks. I'm gonna have a teapot on my hands. It was as if she forgot she had food out. once I pointed it out to her she ate half of it. Around here Iams is a higher quality food(as compared to old roy, Pedigree and the store brand) I got my other dogs on iams when pedigree gave cricket the most horrible gas and runny poos. at least with the dvp food I can feed it to all my dogs because pepper has a tendency to sneak food out of her brothers bowls.

I know what you are saying about Iams. It is is far better than many of the other foods. For the 1st 6 years of raising Yorkies I alway fed mine Pedigree puppy food and they always did great on it but I think over the long haul it is better to feed premium dog foods. My sister-in-law had a poodle that lived to be 22 years old and she was fed just table food and cheap dog food so what do I know. It sounds like you have a nice healthy sized girl....that's how I like them. Is Chicken Soup dog food available at any of the feed stores in your area? I feed Chicken Soup and Canidae.

I used to get it at atwoods, but they don't carry it any more. I used it for my cats before I got dogs, the cats were from when I was in college, they could take care of themselves. I found cricket in 2004 just running down the road, he maybe weighed in at 10 lbs, now he is about 50
