eating grass why is my little one going on 9wks. I have had him since 7 1/2 wks. He is eating his food fine. When we are outside he eats grass and finds cat poop yuck? ... Will it hurt him or can I relax??? |
If you are sure it hasn't been treated with chemicals a bit of grass won't hurt him. It might make him vomit which is normal. There is some debate as to why they eat it. I've read they eat it because it helps with digestion, they could have a vitamin defiency, to help them vomit or they just like it. No one really knows exactly why. If you are worried about it, you could offer him some green vegetables instead. That might stop it. The cat poop can hurt him if the cat has something (certain types of worms or giardia for example) so make sure he doesn't get that again. Welcome to YT. :) |
My two eat grass to if i let them, and it never fails they drow up  |
My two have put grass and any kind of poop at the top of their food pyramids. My vet says that some dogs will graze like a cow and it won't hurt them. It only means that they like it. As for the poop -- yucky, but it hasn't hurt mine at all. (They don't eat their own - they prefer the cats'). |
Ugh! No eating of feces...remember there are parasites. Try to correct the behavior early on. Warmly, Deborah PS Grass is okay if no chemicals otherwise avoid even having them on the grass. |
I have never seen Parker eat grass, but I had to move all my house plants on stands where he couldn't reach them. Most of the plants had large leaves, and it seems he would rip them off , but not really chew them. As far as eating poo.....he will break his neck to get to our minature donkey and horse pasture to eat their poo. They are fed sweet grain, and I am sure that is the reason. He has gotten so bad with it, I can't even let him go to the barn with me and got him a x-pen to put in the dry pad , because the donkey's love him. At least they can stick their heads in the x-pen and get Parker kisses without getting the poo. (yuck) |
