Bleeding while in heat I searched your site and couldn't find a clear answer to a question I had. So, I thought I would just create a new thread. Sorry for those who hate when people do that! My yorkie, Lilly, is going to be 1 year old this April 8th. She has gone into heat this past Saturday (March 12th,2008). I purchased a doggie diaper and use woman’s pannie liners. I have to change them 2 or 3 times a day. This seems like a lot of bleeding. Now, for the questions … is it a lot of bleeding and exactly how long is it supposed to last. I keep reading different things. Some say a week, some a couple of weeks, some say a month. Which is it???? |
The heat cycle in one week coming in (the bleeding portion)... one week in standing heat (when they can get pregnant)... one week going out. No hard and fast rules though... some get pregnant earlier or later ... bleed longer or shorter... some don't bleed much... some bleed alot. Hope this helps .... ;) |
When Ellie used to go into heat, I only saw a few drops of blood on blankets. That seems like way too much to me but I could be totally wrong. |
some bleed heavier than others. She can get pregnant the two weeks after she stops bleeding. |
Bleeding while in heat I don't want her to get pregnant until she's at least 2 years old. I was just wondering about the bleeding itself. It seemed a bit excessive to me. Also, she bigger in size (10 lbs) maybe that has something to do with it??? |

If these are small liners you are using, that could be normal. |
Size could be a factor. Krissy is in heat right now and really tends to bled alot. Krissy is 14 lbs. My Kayle is also in heat and barely bleeding. This is Kayla's first heat at 11 months. |
My one girl, Bailey, just went out! Thank the heavens! She bled quite a bit.. Almost more than I could handle... ;) |
That's the way I feel right now ... it's driving me crazy! I have always had male dogs growing up and thought it would be cool to have a female. I figured she would bleed, but I had no idea how much. Oh well, this will pass so I read from the fellow yorkie owners! Misery loves company! LOL |
Without the panties, she'd be cleaning herself and it wouldn't appear to be as much. |
yeah all babies bleed differently and i think that definitely the size does a difference (you should see what my cocker does to the house when in heat  )... Thankfully it only lasts a little while. You can also considering spaying so none of you (you and your baby) have to go thru this again :) |
