fish oil capsules I know that fish oil is good for our babies coats, here is my question I went ahead and got the fish oil capsules with omega 3 fatty acids 600 mg clear enteric coated capsules, but they are so big. for my other 2 dogs that weigh 20 and 50 lbs I can give it to them as is but with pepper how much can I give her?? Just pop it open and squeeze half on her food or what? I am getting them started on the natures balance dog food and just waiting for it come in the mail(should be here today I hope) because it has the omega 3 fatty acids in it and antioxidants(cranberry) in it. it is a multi stage food so I can feed it to my other 2 as well. |
got buried gonna bump it |
I am not sure, but would also like to know. I take Omega 3 with fish oil for my migraines but mine are 1000 mg each....I guess I might need to buy a smaller dosage. Hopefully, someone will be able to answer your question. Tammy |
I get the Wild Salmon Oil by Kronch. It comes in a bottle with a pump. It's easy to administer as you just pump the oil onto the food. The amount of pumps will depend on the size of the dog. Here is the description I got off the net: Dogs and cats need both omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids for optimal health, and there is no more natural place to get them than salmon oil. Usually, pets already receive omega-6 fatty acids (found in oils from soya, sunflower, grape, and corn) through their food, but that is not true for the omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are an important factor in strengthening the immune system, fertility, and in preventing heart disease. The positive effects of omega-3 fatty acids are primarily due to two fatty acids called EPA and DHA, which salmon is extremely rich in. These two fatty acids can only be found in fish and nowhere else in nature. Omega-3 fatty acids work extremely well against skin and fur problems such as allergies, dry skin, hair loss, itch, scalp, and dull fur. Kronch Salmon oil is extracted from wild, non-farmed salmon by cold pressing the fresh salmon at low temperatures. Cold pressing ensures that the fatty acids aren't broken down and that their qualities aren't lost. The fact that Kronch Salmon oil is cold pressed means that it is very concentrated, making it very economical for daily use. Normal salmon oil which is extracted by boiling many different kinds of fish, contains much less fatty acid and hence doesn't have the same positive effects. Kronch Salmon oil is a pure, natural product containing no preservatives, BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin or artificial coloring or flavoring. Only natural antioxidants such as alpha-tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate, and propylgallate are added. Each bottle comes complete with a practical dosage pump, which not only minimizes air input during use, but also ensures a good level of hygiene. Dosage Information: Mix the salmon oil directly into the pet food * 0-26 lbs - 1 pump / day * 26-53 lbs - 2 pumps / day * 53-100 lbs - 3 pumps / day * >100 lbs - 4 pumps / day 1 pump=4ml (8.5oz=250mL) Ingredients: Salmon Oil and Antioxidants (extracts of natural origin containing strong tocopherol, 6-palmityl-L-ascorbic acid, propyl gallate). Analysis: Omega-3 Fatty Acids:1050 mg Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA):350 mg Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA):450 mg Omega-6 Fatty Acids:150 mg |
Just remember that the body uses Vitamin E to process the fish oil - so, if you give your dog fish oil, be sure and supp. w/ vitamin as well. I use Eicosaderm, which has both (bc I'm lazy :)), which you can get at www.vetamerica.com. |

I just asked the vet this very question last week - she told me to give Bailey 1/2 capsule daily (I have 1000 mg). So I prick 'em with a pin and squeez 1/2 out over her breakfeast. |

Ok,now that I have rambled on. I am wondering about the Omega pills for Livi and Harley...if I use one of my 1000 mg for them, do I just throw away the extra from what I don't use? Tammy |

As for the extra, as far as what I know - exposed vitamins would oxidize pretty quick - so you could probably toss them. Unless someone could chime in and say how long it would be until they oxidize/de-nature, I'd probably assume they'd lose their potency before the next dose. Unless...you put them in something airtight, maybe? |

As for your migraines, have you tried taking Omega 3 with fish oil?? I really thought that NOTHING could help me and Imitrex is really only a "band-aid" and I so desperately wanted something long term...however, not sure if this means that I will always have to take the Omega 3 or if my body will one day stop responding to them...hmmmmmm :scratchhe I think that I will start giving the Omega to my fur kids and see how they do.
