Anything negative about canidae? Lily is on Royal Canin now but after reading about it causing skin allergies I think I am going to switch her. I usually worry too much but I definitely think she is scratching herself A LOT. so anyway, I read all good things about Canidae but are there any negatives? Any comments are appreciated..just trying to do whats best for my baby!:aimeeyork |
We like Canidae. We try new foods and always go back to it. You might hear that some lady claims she found tylenol in it once but it was not even in the original bag it was in a ziplock back and Canidae keeps all of their old samples and they had them tested and it's safe. |
I have been feeding Canidae for almost a year now and have been satisfied with it. I feed both wet and dry, platinum formula for seniors.:animal-pa |
I've never had a problem with Royal Canin... guess it just depends on the dog. Kinda like people, we are all different and react differently. I would most likely never switch. |
We used to feed it for all 3 of our dogs, until Lucy had some suspected Liver issues so I switched her to Wellness Puppy 5 Supermix and the other dogs to Wellness Supermix. But before that I really liked the food, it helped make their coats shinier I noticed and I also noticed it helped with tear stains. |
I switched from Royal Canin to Canidae All Life Stages and it has helped with Harley's itchy skin! |
Thanks! Lily really likes Royal Canin but she is ALWAYS itchy...I'm still just thinking about switching. |

This is going around on the net but the food is okay as far as I know. I would definately switch if your dog is scratching too much. Royal Canin makes so many dogs scratch. |
I heard wonderful things about it, however, it gave Buddy a loose stool. I added it slowly to his regular food but after two weeks I gave up. We're sticking with Natural Balance Organic. It's all natural as well with only organic and human grade ingrediants in it. I thought he could use a change but it didn't work out for us. |
Tia was on Canidae for quite some time, and then became incredibly itchy. I suspected s food allergy so I switched to a food that has a single protein source (Fromm's Salmon a la veg) and her itching has decreased significantly. Some dogs are more sensitive to certain foods than others. Best you can do is buy a bag from a good source. I have one shop that I love to go to....if you try a bag and your dog doesn't like it, you can get store credit to put towards something else and they will donate the opened bag to the local humane society. |
I feed Canidae to both Bella and Bridget. They both love it and Bridget's allergies have improved considerably. |
Something to think about.. Before you go out a buy a bag, most retailers will have samples of foods.. mine has samples for EVERYTHING. Just ask them for a sample and see how she likes it, that way you don't waste your money. I've heard only good things about Canidae. :) It's definitely better than Royal Canin. |
I have all 4 of my furbabies on Canidae All Life Stages. My vet wasn't too happy that my two senior girls were on it, though. She didn't like the 24% crude protein. Said my seniors didn't need it. Thought I'd buy the lower calorie one and see how that works. I'm actually still in the process of switching them over. I've been at it for about two wks. Still think all their stools are a bit too soft. |
4doggiemama, I've been feeding the Canidae platinum to my seniors. It has 6% protein. Maybe give it a try and see how it goes.:animal-pa |
