Does Royal Canine cause yeast infections? Hi all, I was hoping to get your insight on this. My 1 yr old yorkie has had a ear infection for almost 1 1/2 months. I have been taking her to the vet every 2 wks and nothing seems to work. She has given me 2 different types of antibiotics as well as an ear cleaner. 'She also had an ear infection in October. I have read somewhere that Royal Canine causes yeast infections. Has anyone had the same problem with their pups? My vet says Chelsea has a large amount of yeast in her ears and thinks it might be an allergy. Any thoughts? |
Royal Canin does cause allergies in several Yorkies including mine. I'm sure that could turn into a yeast infection. I would switch foods. |
Wow, I have used Royal Canin for two years and never had a problem. Hope your baby gets better, sorry it hasn't worked out for you. :getwellso |
My girl has what seems to be chronic yeast infections in her ears. She is almost three and her ears are down. I have been super careful about water in her ears. I homecook so she does get a very healthy diet. I have stopped feeding her rice and am going to give it a few months and see if that clears it up. Our groomer, who is also very interested in pet nutrition, also suggested switching to all organic meat. I'm going to try one thing at a time and see if it clears up. |

Her breeder recommended Royal Canin and I thought i washer the best. I'm not sure which one to switch her to. There's so much out there. It's so overwhelming. I also blend in a little bit of meat with her dry food. She doesn't seem to want to eat it otherwise. |
Josie's been on Royal Canine for 4 years and Jojo has been eating it for 1 year and 5 months. They won't eat anything else, they've never had any health problems. I hope your baby get's better soon. :aimeeyork |
Okay, perhaps it is different in doggies than humans, but antibiotics tend to kill off our bodies natural flora along with the bacteria... THAT causes the yeast to proliferate and cause yeast infection. I would ask my vet about using topical miconazole in the ears (or some canine equivalent). Miconazole is found in the OTC area of the drug store. It is used for vaginal yeast and may be too strong for yorkies. I hope you figure out something. |
Have you tried Otomax yet? It cleared Ellie's right up... |
