What could it be? Hi everyone, lately Coco has been itching a lot. I mean to the point where she bites between her toes, scratches her face, behind her ears, her tail. You name it, it itches. She's on flea meds, and I've checked her to the best of my abilities and have found no fleas. I've even put her on white sheets for a while to see if I see anything, but nothing. Her food is Innova (best ingredients) so I don't think it's an allergy to her food. Her bowls are stainless steel. What else could it be? Could it just be hair growth? Her hair is growing pretty long. |
It sounds like allergies to me. |
Maybe the shampoo and/or conditioner. Do you use doggie perfume? Are you giving her a new treat that you didn't before? |
I've been suffering he same thing with Chicle... and I switched over to Innova puppy food... The shampoos i use is from Happy Tails I dunno what it could be ... Its not ticks b/c hes hardly outside or on woody or grassy areas... this is just so strange? what could it be? |
The only thing I could think of would be shampoo. Because when she was on royal canin for her food, she itched like that, and I switched to Innova and it immediately stopped. Now she's at it again, so I doubt it's her food. I don't give her treats that she hasn't been given before, mostly fruits and greenies.Vet said that ticks are in highly wooded areas like camping sites, not grass or gardens or anything. I checked for fleas, nothing...ARGHHHH  |

coco was the exact same way and i switched his shampoo to an oat shampoo. he still itches but not as bad. so i would try different shampoo's and conditioners and see wich one doesn't give her a reaction. one thing iv'e learned is that yorkies have very sensitive skin. so trying to find what works can be a challenge. |
It sounds like allergies. Usually they are seasonal, like people, but they can go all year. I've had 3 dogs now with allergies. Satia had fall allergies. Something in the air in the fall that bugged her, usually lasted from Sept til first frost. Montana is the worst. She had them so bad that I ended up taking her to a dermatologist and she had the scratch testing to find out what she was allergic to (just about everything). I gave her special serum shots for 2 years and she finally built up enough immunity that most of the itching stopped. Kansas has fall allergies. She will itch big time for about a month, then it's gone. Just keep an eye on Coco because allergies can get so bad that they will chew feet til they bleed. If it continues I'd go to the vet because they can give him meds to help with the itching. |
ya im using a oatmeal shampoo ... but he still scratches... hmmmmmmm what shampoo do u use nobella?? |
How old is she??? She could be lossing her puppy hair and getting her adult hair...both of my girls itch constantly when they lost their puppy hair around 5 months...if you can't think of anything else, this could be the problem....just a thought!!! |
She's actually almost 20weeks. End of the week she will be 20 weeks. I use Pro Pet Salon shampoo. It's from petsmart. I'm guessing I should get another kind. I heard about the chris christians system. Sometimes at night I can HEAR her chewing between her toes, because I hear her toe nails hitting her teeth. Boy I am just so careful with her, I just don't know how I am missing this. |
Sounds like allergies . |
I was having the same problem with our two. I switched from Royal Canin to Innova Evo several weeks ago & also just found this shampoo at a great store we have in OKC called "Paws Around Town". The shampoo is called "Bobbi's Itchy Dog" & when I was checking out the owner said it is a great shampoo! I bathed them last Saturday & they do seem to be doing better. She said it is mild enough that you can use it all the time. I bought another kind called "Pet Silk" Tea Tree Oil Shampoo which she said was also good but that once their skin is doing better quit using it. Here is the webside for the "Itchy Dog" shampoo. Hope this helps. http://www.bobbipanter.com/indexfast2.html |
Thanks I will try going there and gettting some information. |
I had a problem with Chanel having itchy skin last summer from being in the water so much- I tried a spray on SKIN conditioner - it's called Veternarians BEST Moisture Mist Skin Conditioner and she stopped scratching in less than 24 hours - I don't know if your baby has dry skin but this stuff was only about 8 bucks and sold at Petco. Good luck - itching is a sign of SOMETHING - also the CC Shampoo has never caused either of my girls to itch if you're thinking it could be the shampoo - I've been using it a year and no scratching and Chanel gets LOTS of baths cause she loves playing outside in the hose... |
