Orijen...good/bad? I am trying to find a dog food that Brewser likes and finally found Orijen at a store here so I got a sample and was going to try it. I went to the vet to have a check up and brought along the Orijen label and my vet said that I need to be very careful with feeding it b/c it can "fry their liver" because of the high protein(45%). I thought since dogs are naturally meat eaters, high protein would be natural in their diet. Has anyone had problems with a high protein diet or have fed Orijen with any problems? |
I have seen a few others on here that said they fed the Orijen. Not sure being as it's that much protein. I am contemplating switching zoey from the Merricks so I am interested in hearing people's take on this. |
There are two different sides to this. Some people say dogs are carnivores and therefore should eat almost all protein. Others say all that protein isn't good for them. High protein has never been shown to CAUSE kidney problems (I don't think liver problems either). You should discontinue high protein food if a liver or kidney problem is found. I prefer to give lower protein anyway but it is a personal preference. |
my puppy timbit seems to pick at his orijen and leaves his merricks puppy plate left :( lately though his poo has been very soft .. so i've decided to switch to another food with lower protein . any recommendations ? |
