Help Fleas everywhere!!! [F]Hi everyone, I need help! I have put on the frontline and still not working they have had it on for three weeks and one of my cats ran inside and now we have a flea problem. Their like industrial fleas or something the fogs are not helping. I tried pinesol, and tea tree oil for the house frequent baths but I am afraid of drying out my new furbabies. I know that the fleas will make blossom and yankee sick if left too long in the area and not good for my human babies either. My little girl Savannah and my husband are allergic to fleas. Help please I am running out of ideas. I need to get these gone before summer hits. My vet put on the frontline and told me to try the tea tree oil and pinesol for the house. I need help now. Fleas are getting annoying!!! Tracy[/FONT] :aimeeyork |
Your vet can give your dogs Capstar pills. They kill all the fleas on the dog right away. Dawn dish soap does the same and is my first choice. The vet also could give something called Program. It doesn't kill fleas but makes it so they can't reproduce. The methoprene in the Frontline might also do this though. I'd talk to the vet. |
Thank you soo much. Not sure why my vet didnt tell me this to begin with. What about for the house?? My little girl has red bumps all over where the fleas have bitten her! :( Ive had it with fleas!! Theres just not enough room for fleas in my house!! Thanks again I will ask my vet tomarrow. Do you know the ages on the capstar pills?? Tracy |
I've never used Capstar, so I don't know how safe it is. Your vet should. Here is a post by Ladymom about treating the carpet but remember to keep the animals off of it til everything is vacuumed. Fleas can come in through screens or even be carried in on your pant legs. Since you are in Florida, it's a year round problem. Dawn will kill the live fleas that are on her which are only about 5% of the fleas, unfortunately, if they are in your house. Most are flea eggs and larvae that live in your carpeting. Mix it 50/50 Dawn and water and put it on a dry dog, then lather. Leave the lather on as long as possible, then rinse. If you think this is a brand new infestation, get a Capstar pill from your vet. It will kill the live fleas and sterilize any eggs. If they continue to be a problem, you may have to treat your carpet. I swear by Adams carpet powder. It's hard to find (it has to be the powder, not the spray so you can work it down into the carpet). I know other people who swear by 20 Mule Team Borax. |
Great I will try these. Im up for anything at this point. Thanks again. Tracy |
You may want to ask your vet about Sentinel Flavor Tabs also. These protect your pet from heartworm but also is a long-term flea management system. It protects your dog by preventing fleas from reproducing and creating a flea population in your home without pesticide residue on your pet or in your home. I keep a Capstar tablet on hand just in case I see a flea on Stella. |

To treat your house...go to a hardware store or feed and seed type of place and buy boric acid. It's a white powder and inexpensive. Sprinkle it on your carpets and brush in with a broom. It'll totally eliminate the fleas...and any other insect. It's non toxic and won't hurt your pets or you. All of my animals are treated with frontline... |
You might have to have your home treated by a professional. I hate fleas! |
:yeahthat: :yeahthat: :yeahthat: i am beginning to itch just thinking about fleas... |
Here is a website for flea treats, I have been using them for a couple months no fleas. The big test will be in the spring and summer when fleas are at the worst. They are guarantee for fleas and ticks, I checked out the bbb and they have been around for years. Good luck http://fleatreats.com/ |
I recommend using sevin lawn and garden granules outside. Just sprinkle it all around your house. I you have fleas bad in the house you can use 5% sevin dust, just sprinkle it on the carpet and leave it for a couple of hours and then vacuum it up. You can even use the 5% sevin on your pets but I prefer not to do that. I use Advantage on my Yorkies when necessary but I even hate using that because of some of the side effects and it can harm their coat. I hate fleas too but living in southeast Texas there is just no way to avoid them. It is a constant battle. To get rid of fleas you have to break the cycle, kill the fleas and then kill the next batch of fleas that hatch before they have a chance to lay eggs. |
I think these ideas are great! Please be careful with your human baby though...you may want to talk to a pediatrician about her bumps. I would also keep her off the carpet for a while. |
For inside on the carpet use table salt. sprinkle liberly(sp) on the carpet and use a shop broom to work it into the carpet down to the base. leave it there for about 24-36 hrs then sweep it up. you will have to repeat about every 2-3 days due to the eggs hatching. You will also need to treat your pets or they will just move from the carpet to them, 2 months straight of frontline tmts and the salt worked for me. |

The professional companies use boric acid. I know because I paid to have it done one time...200 bucks. I asked what the powder was. After that I purchased it myself from a local hardware store....cost of 1 bottle $4.00 which is enough to treat the entire house. |
