Eww.. bad breath I just recently started giving my baby canned food. He is still eating dray as well but mostly likes the canned. But since he started on the canned his breath is so bad. Just wondering what you all do if your babies have bad breath? Thanks! |
Leo has bad breath too after he eats food.I gave him the Eukanuba hard food with a bit of the canned science diet food. My breeder recommended the Petzlife spray or gel which i spray once a day, only 2 sprays in his mouth and the bad breath is gone. :) |
Brushing is good, too The spray mentioned is good but you also may want to start brushing your baby's teeth once a day or just after he eats. Do not use human toothpaste! You can use plain water and then follow that with the spray. They do make doggie enzyme toothpaste but it gets expensive - and my girl loves the poultry flavor soooo much she spends the entire time trying to lick the brush. At the grocery store, buy a toothbrush for very young children (extra soft, extra small). Work a little bit with your baby every day - eventually he'll get used to it and let you really get in there. Be patient. It could take a good six months until they sit long enough. A quick once over should be fine. No need to brush for two minutes or anything like that. I was told small breeds tend to have bad breath because their jaw bones are sooo small the teeth just don't have a lot to hang on to -- it doesn't take much to get bacteria in there (gum disease). Keep in mind that crunchy food can help strengthen the teeth, too. Perhaps adding a little to his canned food would help. Wishing you lots of SWEET kisses with your baby, Jules |
Rex had the same problem too until he had his teeth cleaned at the vet yesterday. Now, it doesn't have a smell at all ;) |
Sydney has horrible breath. Even the day she came home from the vet's after a cleaning! Smells like sumthin died in there! |
