Innova vs. Pro Plan I have a dilemma! Bella was on Eukanuba and then I read on YT that it wasn't that good for her, so I made the switch to Innova. She likes it but she still tries to go after our other dog's food. He is on Pro Plan and she just LOVES it. I've also heard that Pro Plan is good. Is one better then the other? My other dog is a bigger dog, he is a beagle mix and he is on the sensitive stomach Pro Plan dog food and its not breed or size specific. Would it be ok to give Bella the same or should I keep her on Innova or can I get her on Pro Plan too (since she LOVES it) but buy it for the small breed? I'm so confused. Hopefully someone will be able to bring some light to my situation. Thank you in advance for any help you guys can give! |
I personally would keep her on Innova...i like to believe that Innova, Canidae, Wellness, Eagle Pack and many others stand in a class of their own. Eukanuba, Royal Canin, Proplan and others are bellow their qualiti (in my opinion). They are good food, but not as good as the first group. Maybe you could change your beagle diets also...I know for a fact that Eagle pack makes a food specific for sensitive dogs. |
I agree with Babbie. Canidae & Innova are the 2 top brands out there, imo. |
Thank you so much for your responses, I think I will keep her on Innova and try to see if I can switch the food for my other dog. I really apperciate the feedback. |
:aimeeyork I agree. My four darlins get Innova EVO sprinkled with Missing Link +. They are all doing GREAT!!! It is important to be an educated shopper and learn to read dog foodl labels. Even a lot of the premium dog foods have some really disgusting ingredients. |

I wouldn't feed either dog Pro Plan. Just because your other dog is big, does not mean he shouldn't get the same high quality diet as Bella Bear. Does your Beagle have collitis? There are many reasons for this problem including diet but if you have him on a high quality diet, this problem should subside. Have you tried Wysong Adult Matenance? It has rice in it which should help your beagle's tummy and it as good a food as the Innova. |
Is Innova a prescription food? Quote:
My vet mentioned a food that is duck and potatoe I believe good for dogs that have allergies! Wondering if that is the one? |
Innova isn't perscription food...BUT AS the other above me said you can't even place pro plan in the same category..I heard that it is not even a decent food...just what I have heard...I feed Innova from Royal Canine and I love it@!!! |
I am really at a loss as far as feeding. I was/am feeding RC to my Brucey and he loves it and seems healthy. After being here on YT I became convinced that RC was bad for him and tried to switch him to Innova...I tried everything to get him to eat it (mixing it with RC, giving him pieces like they were treats, etc) and he flat out refused to eat it. Well I assumed if he got hungary enough he would eat it, well I was wrong. It is a test of wills with him and one I cannot win because he will literally not eat until it is medically dangerous for him (he becomes shakey etc). Of course I thought his refusal to eat for such long periods was indicative of illness so I had him checked out and really he is just stubborn...So after all that my question is any new ideas on how to make the transition and/or do you think RC will cause him medical problems if I continue to feed that? |
Maximus LOVED his RC....LOVED IT...I just mixed it in with the Innova and he would pick the RC out and only eat that..eventually I kept making the RC portion smaller and smaller and about 2 weeks later he came around. I beleiev ProPlan is on the "DON NOT FEED" list , RC isn't the on good food list but also not on the bad one either....honestly the only reason I switched was because the corn in it was making Maximus itch like crazy!!!! otherwise I loved the size and Maximus really enjoyed it...it has no by products and the ingredints are good except the corn and if it doesn't bother your baby GO FOR IT...no reason to make him miserable!! |

http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/products/PandD.html I dont know how good they are though, anyone have experience with them? |
It is a good food, and highly recommended on the whole dog journal's list |
hhhmmm....how would it compare to Innova? |
I beleiev that Innova is considered one of the best ...but I don't know about you but I have to go to a special store to get the Innova so if it is easoer to get the natural balance for you...it is also good and I would get that..sorry not much help :( |
Check other posts on Royal Canin--liver burnout from too high protein 33% is too high..26% is the top end. |
I am thinking of getting Innova or Canidae for my yorkie pup, General Patton. Is there a particular kind of each for puppies that I should consider? |
Here is the link for Innova Pet Foods: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=cal-home I began switching Carter & Cooper from Nutra Ultra Puppy to Innova Puppy on Friday. They are taking to the new food really well! On the Innova site, you can compare the ingredients of some of the better foods with their food comparison tool. My top three choices would be Innova, Canidae and Chicken Soup. Wellness is another I considered. I'm pleased with the Innova and its contents thus far. I have to travel to New Orleans to get the better dog foods (all the ones I mentioned above). Where the store is located is about 1 hour 20 minutes from me but it will be well worth the trip in order to help my dogs get the best nuitrition possible. Once I finished this 6.6# bag I purchased, I'll go back and purchase either a 16.5# or larger bag so that I don't have to return so quickly. Lisa |
Lisa, Thanks! There is a website posted by another YT member that sends the dog food to your home. That website is www.petfooddirect.com/store |
