Do your Yorkie's hate their bowls? Tiny always takes his food and puts it on the floor before he eats it, he is 6 months old and hasn't been eating very well lately. I've been working long 11 hour shifts (don't worry he's not home alone, my husband is home all day cause he works the graveyard shift) n e ways when I get home his food doesnt look like its been eaten much and he only eats well when I am sitting there next to him. He will eat any human food that I give him till its gone but hasn't been touching his canned Merrick food or his Chicken soup for the puppy's soul klibble. I do give him human food from time to time but I also want him to eat lots of Dog food b/c it's healthier. When I get home from work everyday I cook then clean up after the kids. Then I get a fork to feed Tiny his dog food and that is the only time I see him eat but not even that much... Sorry for such a long post but do any of your dogs only eat while you're there, eat on the floor or make you feed them? I just thought he was weird and wanted to share |
..i sometimes put baby's food on the floor or a little plate thats the only way he will eat it he doesnt like his bowl at all....very stubborn dog..i tell ya |
Yeah maybe we should try plates? I wonder if there are cute doggie plates available |
My little girl hated her bowls at first. What I did was I sat on the floor with her and would hold the bowl and feed her from my hand right next to the bowl, before I knew it she decided it was quicker just to put her little head in the bowl and get it herself. She now eats all my herself! |
I always fed Muffin from plates. She was a very prissy and neat eater. Kacee was a different story at first, so I tried bowls. Well, she would take her little paw and push it down on one side causing the kibble to scatter, so I started using the little plates I used for Muffin and she's been a very neat eater ever since then. I don't think she liked the bowls. I have a couple of small oval plates that she likes. She'll lay there sometimes like Staci's little Cosmo and eat from them. |
Hi! Zeus is the same way. So we even tried a little plate and guess what, he still knocks the food off and eats it from the floor. I don't understand it, but he loves it that way. So now, we put his food in the bowl and dump a little out for him, to give him a start and then he does the rest. I think he has fun doing that. Maybe it makes eating more fun!! :p |
I had to laugh when I saw the thread title because Tatum is such a coot with her bowl. We got Tatum when we were building our new house and living with my mother-in-law. I just had small ceramic bowls for her then. She loved to put her paw on the edge and tip it over just enough for some food to fall out and then eat it off the floor. But she made such a mess doing that! When we moved, I got her these adorable bowls from Target that are animal print on the ouside and a dark magenta with "Indulge" painted on the inside bottom (has anybody seen those? adorable!) but they are ceramic with the slanted edges - don't know how to describe it - where they can't be tipped over easily. Well, she was not happy about that. She still, after about a month, tries every so often to tip it over and can't do it! But yesterday I saw her take a couple pieces out and carry it over to the rug to eat it. Now that's how our poodle used to eat - never straight out of the bowl. But for the question you actually asked..... I did have to hand feed Tatum for a couple weeks after we got her but eventually she started eating out of the bowl. I think almost everyone has gone through that here so I don't think it's much to worry about. But the longer you pamper her by doing that, the longer she'll let you think you HAVE to do it! ;) |
Charlie almost never eats out of the bowl he will carry his food form the kitchen to the living room. The only time he does eat out of the bowl is when he is really hungry! |

brownie is 3 and still does that lol |
Lucky does that also. He carries his food from the bowl to his bed and eats it there. I think I have a video of him doing it too. Right click and Save Target As.. http://www.jinetix.com/yorkietalk/CIMG0013.AVI |
Yes! This thread title caught my attention. Hahh Fred doesn't put his food on the floor. He'll eat it just fine out of his bowl, but when he's done, he'll flip it upside down and have all the water get all over his paws and his mat. It's a daily ritual for him. That's why, I stopped filling water so high. I leave it at just enough and when it's gone, we'll refill it. It's so WEIRD! Sometimes, he'll drag his pillow from his crate into the kitchen. He'll stick it on top of the upside bowl and lay on it for no reason at all. Does anyone else's baby do that?! |
