Kennell cough or collapsing trachea Bandit is 6 months old. He coughs all the time. I dont know what is wrong with him, it does sound like a hairball or something is stuck, which is impossible. I dont know if it is collapsing trachea, which I am gonna be really sad if it is. Any idea's? He coughs two or three times and then just stops. He has been doing this a lot lately. I got 3 months ago. He will do this randomly, not after he eats or drinks. |
i would consult with a vet. if it's kennel cough you need meds asap. it's contagious to other dogs. collapsed trachea sounds like a goose honk. |
my dog pete has a collapsing trachea and it does sometimes sound like a cough or gag, kind of like a cat with a hairball, its basically caused by the tickling they feel when the cartilage flattens a little causing the muscle connecting it to have too much slack. when it happens i just calm him down and it usually goes away pretty quickly. but it is something to definitely check out with the vet since it can be hard to distinguish from other ailments. but just to reassure you although pete has had a collapsing trachea since he was just a little guy, he's now 3 yrs and just as rambunctious as ever. he just needs to be reminded to calm down and let it pass every once in a while. . . then we can get back to wrestling:) ! |
