Yorkie 11 needs to gain weight?? Any solutions Help. Tiny weighs only 3.2 pounds, she needs to be about 3.5 lbs. She is so bony. Shes almost 11 years old and needs to put on some weight in the event that she would get sick she would have nothing to fall back on. Can anyone suggest some natural things I could feed her. Back when I had English Setters and was trying to put weight on one, our trainer had us feed them pasta at least three times a week. They loved it! My Yorkie, Higgins, LOVES leftover pasta and rice with a little cheese sprinkled on it, and I usually give him a little when we are having it. It sure worked wonders in putting weight on my setters and on ME! lol Welcome to YorkieTalk! Come back often! |

Welcome to YorkieTalk! Yep, NutriCal and pasta with a little parm sprinkled on it! The veggie pasta is Toto's fave! Sure piled the weight on her! :) She also loves potato, sweet potato, carrots, apple and pear. |

Right on about the puppy food! We had to watch Pogo's weight carefully when Higgins was eating puppy foor because Pogo LOVED it! At 13 years old, it sure put weight on him! But now he's slimmed down again, thank goodness....... |

I forgot I forgot to tell you, her registered name is Tiny Toto, I watched The Wizard of Oz once too often... |
Why is she so thin? Has she been refusing to eat? Or, has she been vomitting? If she is nauseated or having stomach trouble my vet recommends a bland diet of hamburger (grease drained off) and white rice. If she is eating and losing weight giving her canned puppy food is good. Tinkie doesn't like her puppy canned food at all, I use euknuba. But, if that doesn't work try cat canned food. For some reason, Tinkie loves cat food! And, I do notice they put lots of chunks of meat and gravy in it, so it has to be high cal. The nutrical is good, but she might not like it. I would try to smear a finger tip full 4 times a day to the roof of her mouth to get her blood sugars up that may make her want to eat more too. About Tiny Last year tiny had a hysterectomy in order to combat Pyometra (sp?) She has put on some weight, but has not put it all back on. She is under a doctor's care but even the vitamins aren't putting the weight on her. She is almost 11 and I am worried about her getting sick and having no body fat to survive on. She isn't losing weight, just not gaining it back as I think she should. |

When I used to work for a veterinarian, we used Prozyme. As animals get older, they may not be able to digest their food properly and not get the the nutrients out of the food as they once did when they were younger. It is a powdery substance that you sprinkle on their food. We had a lot of sucess with it. Ask your veterinarian what he/she thinks about that. As mentioned before, Nutrical is also very beneficial. I hope that this helps. |

Dear BabyGirlYorkie Thank you so much for your kind answer. Tiny will be fine, she is strong and healty otherwise. It was tough last year, but we have seen each other through it. I don't think she left my arms for a week. It was really very interesting. The sunday after her surgery she busted some of her stitches, of course I panicked and called the vet right away and she met me at her office. She had to put her out again in order to repair them, and had no one to help, so I got to assist in the surgery. It was very intersting to say the least, and I got to be right there with my little tiny the whole time. An enlightning experience, but one I do not ever want to repeat. Now we are working on the weight. She still plays like a 2 year old, she just needs some weight one her. I tried the pasta the other night, and I got some geriatric vitamins from the vet, so I will see how those additions work over the next few weeks.
