spay surgery... just got the post card from the vet that it is time to schedule Maggies surgery...i dont know any thing about the procedure itself or the recovery...any infomation you have will b appreciated thanks,Tammy |
Sophie was spayed on February 26th and she is doing awesome. We opted for the "pain package" but think we could've done without the additional $79 charge because she only needed one pain pill. She even had a hernia fixed. She was sore the first couple of days and really tired the first day. We had to take her out on her leash rather than let her run all over the yard. We also had to keep the incisions dry. Other than that we had to keep her from playing too hard. |
how bad are the incisions?? |

Layla had a bit of a hard time with her surgery (but like her mommy, she is sensitive :p) She came home the day-of with no pain meds, which wasn't even the issue, she just has a hard time with anethesia. It took her about 3-4 days to get back to her normal self. SHe was very groggy and coudlnt' stand on her own. I bought her infant onesies to wear instead of the e-collar and she seemed very comfy in those. She wore them mainly at night because i codlnt' keep an eye on her and wanted to make sure she didnt' take her stiches out. They stayed in for 10 days and during that time she coudlnt have a bath. |
most smaller dogs are usually hooked up to a heart monitor to watch them better under sedation pain they can be given a shot or pills also fluids to awake quicker small dog spays usually have 3 or 4 sutures right under the belly button on a thin white line called the midline they usually stay overnight and go home the next afternoon but awaken about an hour or less after the surgery and removal from sedation actual surgery should take under about 30 minutes without any complications |
Bailey was spayed in October. I remember being anxious and concerned before the surgery - but looking back now, it was rather un-eventful. While in surgery, they removed two baby teeth. I brought her home the same day - around 3:00. I stayed with her the following day. I opted for the laser incision for a cleaner cut and I'm glad I did. Her scar is barely noticeable. |
I got Mochi spayed, 10 baby teeth extracted and microchipped on Feb 27. I picked her up on the same day after the surgery. She came home very tired and cried a lot, but she wanted to eat which was a good sign. 3 days after surgery her pee frequency changed all of a sudden (every 5 to 10 minutes), we (YTers) all thought she had a UTI. The frequency slowly came back down to nearly normal the next day. The the following day I found her incision looked abnormal - a pinkish bubble on her incision. I took her back to the vet and was assured she was fine. I also gave her the onesie to wear instead of e-collar; it works like a champ! Now Mochi had her surgery for 1.5 weeks. She is on her way for surture removal. Yay! |
Lola is 6 months and was spayed 4 days ago. She came home with 4 days of pain meds and was slightly quiet and sleepy that night. She was sleepy the next day as well but on day 3 back to business. Never showed signs of pain, gave her the meds only 3 days. Jumped on and off couch fine from the start, but carried her down deck stairs at first to potty. Did use cone when we were not with her but onesie idea is fabulous and will try for remaining time. Incision is just a few inches long and nice and neat. She does not really pay much attention to it. I had been very worried how it would go and also worried about behavior changes but it seems it's been a very small blip in her life. Good luck! |
This probably sounds like a really stupid question, but what is a onesie? It isn't a name I've come across over here. Only I'll be getting Ellie spayed soon, & it sounds like you found it a good idea. |
it's a cotton baby undershirt that snaps at the crotch, found anywhere baby clothes are sold, very inexpensive. :) |
When Tricksie was spayed, you would never know that anything happened to her except that she was sleepy. Her incision was like a small hole and it had a glue like substance, just had to make sure she didn't lick alot. I was amazed because I had myself worried sick. |
Ellie's spay, liver biopsy and teeth cleaning took about an hour. Her incision was long and nasty (because of the biopsy) but she did fine. She wore a onesie and had to have pain meds...she was in a lot of pain. I had preop bloodwork done, she was monitored during surgery and surgery was done on a heated surface and I wouldn't have it any other way.:) |
My baby was spayed a week ago today. Very groggy after and the following day which worried me sick. Once you get past seeing your baby groggy and out of it, I think it’s smooth sailing. The onsie was a great idea (thanks to Yorkietalk.com) because the vet didn’t think that cone thing was necessary. |
