Well...HELLO Pollen!!!!!!!!!! About 5 days ago...*hmm, Marcel seems to be itching more lately* About 3 days ago...*hmmm, Marcel is pawing at his eyes again, what the heck* About 2 days ago...*hmmmm, Marcel is licking at his paws, THAT is odd/new* Yesterday afternoon...*hmmmmm, Marcel is BITING/chewing his back paws, OMG!!!!!!!!* I start bonking my brain thinking of *what* he could've gotten into (food wise) and then it dawns on me to check the outdoor allergen levels (I found www.pollen.com - what a GREAT website) and our pollen in AZ is OFF the scale!!!!!! My poor baby, I swear, would have eaten his paws - I can't imagine the misery they must feel in their feet to want to chew them like that. So, I gave him some chews - which does help, and eventually some childrens benadryl (which barely touched him); but really, all he wanted to do was chew his little back feet :(. I emailed his nutritionist this morning, so hopefully she'll suggest something. Anyone else deal with strong reactions to pollen? :thumbdown :( |
i'm sorry, I have no advice other than the benadryl, but my daisy (cocker) does this all the time and benadryl doesn't help her at all. vet's have no answer for why she does it...other than her being bored :( good luck...and PLEASE let us know if you find out anything else. I would love to have some more ideas to try with Daisy!!!! |
Marcel's nutritionist got back to me, she said: "I am glad to help. Try the Proaller with Notatum drops. Proaller is a great product but alone won’t be enough. The Notatum really makes a great deal of difference as it acts like a natural anti-inflammatory—you know how when your pet is itching—the vet gives you prednisione to quiet the system—same concept. You mix the Proaller with the Notatum together in a syringe and squirt in or mix in a little broth or pumpkin if he will eat it. The Syallgen cream is also helpful too. It is good you are addressing this now as there is a direct link with allergy symptoms and digestive issues----and as mentioned in the newsletter, allergies are cumulative and symptoms get worse with age unfortunately." Awrighty, we have a plan. |

I HATE THE POLLEN!!!!! My poor son is so allergic that I have had three different allergist tell me that they have never seen a child that allergic to it. Poor kid has to get weekly allergy shots just to try and breath!!!:( I never really though of a dog being allergic to it but then again I had a pug that was allergic to grass! |

I feel your pain and itchies!!! Cedar is very high here right now and that explains all the dogs w/ their itchy watery eyes!!! Poor babies!!! Great links!!!:thumbs_up |
Question I've been having this same problem with Kayah for the past week (about 5 days or so).. Now the day before yesterday I've noticed Evie start scratching... My question is: HOW MUCH BENADRYL should I give them?? Evie isn't as bad as Kayah... she'll just pause for a second and go back about her buisness.. It's Kayah that's gotten me worried |
