Blotches / hives but no itching 4 Attachment(s) Has anyone ever seen this? I have a 7-year-old girl who periodically gets severe red blotches or hives on her skin --- but she doesn't appear to be itchy. No scratching or rubbing. However, she does seem to get restless the 12 to 24 hours before they appear. The vet has been treating her for constant runny eyes that get green - (:sickie: blech! He thinks she may have an allergy to something. Who knows what. No vomiting. No licking. No itching. No scratching. No coughing. Nothing. Except red blotches (that come and go in a matter of hours) and constantly goopy eyes. And very, very stinky breath. Oh. My. Gosh. BTW, her eyes (and breath) cleared up when she was put on antibiotics when a neighbor's dog got into our yard and bit her. (Bad doggie!) She's fine now. In the past, she's had an "episode" (Nervous, Nervous, Nervous. Bright red blotchy skin) about 8 hours after I'd given her topical flea medicine and oral heartworm med. We took a two month break before trying a new heartworm med. This month however, I gave her a different heartworm med (no flea stuff) and she seemed okay for a week. Then last night she was restless and this morning she was very red. Yesterday (1:00 pm) I gave her the smallest taste of my salmon but she didn't have any symptoms following that. No vomiting. No diarrhea. No itching, etc. Just restlessness last night and beautiful artwork on her tummy in the morning. I'm not worried so much as curious. Other than the restlessness (once every six - ten weeks), she doesn't seem too bothered by the whole mess. I give her Benadryl to help clear things up. It seems to work. Oh yeah, she's been eating Solid Gold ("Barking at the Moon" high protein, Grain/Gluten free) for a couple of months and seems to love it. I thought perhaps it was her food (over the years I've used dental health versions of Royal Canin, Science Diet, and some other organic food -can't remember the name). She's never had stomach problems or anything. Thanks in advance for your advice! (I'll post other pictures of her later. She's a sweet LONG-TAILED baby. We got her in Germany and they stopped docking tails in 2000.) |
I am not sure what to tell you. Could there be something to do with the topical flea medicine? Its chemical after all. |
Weird..never heard of this. |
Initially I thought that might be the problem but I haven't used any flea medicine or products in about 4 months. And the heartworm medicine was given a week before the latest rash. She had been outside in the yard for a while (an hour?) but she's done that before with no obvious problems. Plus, I imagine if she had a grass allergy she'd be licking her feet like crazy. But she's not. Nor is she rubbing her eyes, etc. We're careful not to give her table scraps aside from an occasional bite of cooked egg or a tiny (smaller than a dime) taste of salmon - no more than twice a month. Oh, and instead of traditional treats, we give her canned cut green beans. Again, she loves them and has no stomach problems from them. It really is a mystery at this point. I guess we're going to treat her for "general allergies." |
sorry cant help you on this just wanted to say i hope it gos away and stays away:( |
