How Much Food Per Day? Vet recommended I feed at different times a day instead of free feeding. (forgot to ask how much!) At 14 weeks and 2.9 pounds, how much should she be eating each day and how many times a day? Thanks :) |
we Free Feed so i really couldnt tell ya,, and if your Vet said that i'm sure they'd have an amount in mind,, I'd just call them back and ask! :) |
I free feed Murfee too and have since we got him at 8 weeks old. Good luck |
I got my puppies at 10 weeks and under the instruction of my vet and a few trainers, I put out a couple of tablespoons of dry puppy kibble 3-4 times a day, for 15 minutes, and then put the food up. Not to worry if they don't eat all of it, or sometimes don't eat any. They'll eat when their hungry, and learn that when it's feeding time, you eat or wait until the next meal time and not beg/whine for food. After a few months, I decreased to 3 times a day, and as adults, I feed them twice a day. Which food?: I searched for the best, and decided on Wysong puppy food (dry w/ Wysong Add Life vitamin powder mixed w/ some grated or small minced fruits or veggies--the wet left too much residue on their teeth). As puppies, I also added a Tbsp of water which made a tasty smelling broth as soon as it touched the vitamin powder.... Done in order to help regulate their bowel movements for easy housebreaking early on, and now 3 years old, they are not picky about food (i.e., walk away during feeding time or get distracted from eating) Hope that was specific enough for you. I was really frustrated when I was a first time puppy owner and found resources for novices limited. I recently read an excellent book for 'puppy/food/training/socialization/everything' by Dr. Ian Dunbar "Before & After Getting your Puppy"...I wish I had it 3 years ago!!! I think he might have a website somewhere. Sorry that was so long! Good luck! |
Thank you! That was great. :) |
I'm not sure since she is still so young, but I feed my babies 1/2 cup of dry kibble per day, NO wet food (I give them 1/4 cup of kibble in the morning, and 1/4 cup at night) giving them a healthy treat in the afternoon, in between meals. I would ask your vet what he recommends for your baby :) Although, since she is still so young and you do need to make sure she is getting enough food, I don't think it would hurt you to free feed for right now. I used to always free feed, but I have a chubby little girl that will sit at her bowl and eat ALL day long if I let her, and since she is so small, over eating is definitely not good for her so we have to do feeding schedules at our house ;) |
