Okay so since I found this site I become real aware of how important feeding premium food. I also can't afford anything to expense but they sell this brand at Petsmart and the price is reasonable.. I want to start Izzie on the puppy brand and Tobey on the adult...

for the puppy they have a chicken and lamb version I was leaning towards the chicken:

The ingredients look real good.. Does anyone feed their yorkie?

i used to feed Blue Buffalo... it made Layla very very sick... and it was involved in the recalls (at least the puppy and kitten formulas were) however apparently they haave "changed" since then.

this website is only one person's opinion but i agree. Finding a quality food can be hard if you are on a budget but it can be done.

I fed Blue Buffalo too. It worked great for my dogs, they liked it, and I feel that BB is a good company.

Yes, they were involved in the recall-but many dog food manufacturers were also involved. Many of those recalls were voluntary and precautionary, not actually because there were toxic ingredients found in their food. Also, BB's recalls were on their canned/pouch foods, but none were on the dry dog food formulas.

I no longer feed much kibble, as I homecook, but the kibble they do get from time to time is Blue Buffalo brand.

It's just about finding a food that works for you and for your dogs.

I have never fed Blue Buffalo, but have been on the verge of trying it several times. I know that the PetSmarts in my area sell some of the so-called high quality foods. (I know ours carries Innova and Wellness, not sure what other brands off the top of my head.)

Thanks for all your input... I know that this other store Pet Supermarket sells Wellness as well I saw it in their catalog online but didn't say a price and PetSmart is closer to me. I just want to get a good quality at a reasonable price. Does anyone know the kibble sizes for the BB puppy and Wellness brand are they small??

I would not feed this food because I am not okay with feeding garlic.

I don't feed garlic when homecooking, however, it is safe in small amounts, and commonly found in many commercial dog foods. I'm ok with it in this case.

I used to think that only large amounts of garlic weren't okay but small amounts found in food were fine. I have since learned that small amounts fed over a period of time can still be a problem. It can lead to asthmatic attacks and hemolytic anemia. I would not want to take the risk and if for some reason Ellie had to be on a food with garlic, I would check RBCs. Garlic is on AAFCO's acceptable ingredients list but hopefully gets taken off. While most dogs will do just fine with it, since garlic isn't necessary I feel that I would be putting dogs in danger by recommending it. I think the problem may be bigger in cats though. This is why I stopped recommending Innova.
