Need advice: Food Issue When I brought Max home he was eating ProPlan and I successfully moved him to Innova EVO. During the past 4 months he has eaten this food with no issues (loves it, coat looks good, no scratchies, etc.). My niece was in town last weekend for a formal and came to my house to get ready. While I was running some errands, she apparently fed him rotisserie chicken...TWICE. Now he will not touch his food. It has been a struggle this entire week to get him to eat anything but he does a happy dance whenever I eat. He will only eat one of his treats, nutri cal and some natural balance (I had a sample and was willing to try anything). Should I try and start him on another food or ride it out a little longer? Thanks in advance. I know I will get some great advice here! |
Is is possible the chicken upset his stomach and that is why he is not eating? Have his stools been normal? I would not think a couple bites of chicken would make him just quit eating so there may be an underlying cause for his not eating. You might need to ride it out a little longer. I wish I had a simple answer. |
I would ride it out a little longer-eventually, he'll get hungry enough to eat his normal food. You might try topping it with a little cottage cheese to get him started on it again. Don't switch now-that can make for a picky eater. Make sure that he's getting enough food so he doesn't get low blood sugar though-that can cause hypoglycemia in small/young yorkies. |
I would switch foods only because I don't like Evo. |
I have discovered that Max really, really likes cottage cheese but still will not eat his food. He will nibble some but not much. I went to a friends last night and her dachshund eats Merrick's chicken-duck-turkey and Max ate everything left in the bowl. Not sure what to do at this point. He doesn't seem to be losing any weight and is up to his usual shenanigans. Ellie, curios as to why you don't like EVO. Is it the garlic? Thanks so much everyone! |
