thanks for the advice!! If she does feel "fussy" and happens to not want to eat a meal, which sometimes happens but not often, I give her "nutristat".. have you heard of it? Its a suppliment that gives them all the nutrients of a meal, so they don't have an episode since their tummys are so small

Nutristat, nutrical... there are various brands of it. Yep!, I used it too when Remy was a baby. It was in a tube and I'd squeeze it onto my finger and let her lick it off. Sometimes, she'd lick it straight from the tube. Sometimes I'd put a little on her lip and let her get the taste to encourage her to take it. I know it's so worrysome when they are so tiny - and picky! :)
Remy used to refuse meals quite a bit when I first got her. She really had *food issues* - I found that the less I fussed over her, the calmer I was, and didn't focus too much on the whole food thing - the more she learned that being a food diva wasn't going to get her all that extra attention that reinforced the fussiness.
It's hard though because it's so easy to start to worry when we think they aren't eating enough.
I think I read that yours is about 8 months old? She's a tiny little weenie like Remy was. I still wonder how she can eat so much when she pigs out on something yummy! I taught her the command "belly" and sometimes after she's pigged out I tell her "Show me the fat belly!" She goes belly up and wow - lol - her little tummy is round and full! lol!

thats so cute!! yeah I found the nutristat to be a real lifesaver, although after the 1st month she ate really regular.. but after she got fixed last week she wasn't eating too normal the 1st couple days so I gave her the nutristat.. What was also cool was I would crush up her medication in it and she'd lap it up!!

I sometimes give it to her just as a little treat cause she loves it so much!!

I did that too after her spay surgery! I forgot about that! It was really easy to pill her using the nutristat. And I used it as a treat too, because she liked it! (most of the time anyway *lol*) It's good to have around and I should really get a tube just to have on hand because even at 3 1/2 years old now - little things have come up that have thrown her off. I travel with her frequently - both flying (in her sherpa in the cabin with me) and long road trips.

I feed Life's Abundance and Canidae All Stages. Both are excellent foods.

My girls eat the Life's Abundance kibble. They love it!! I leave it out all day and they graze but i have to ration Kissy or she would eat until she popped. :rolleyes: She gets a 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the afternoon. They all get baby carrots for their lunch snack.
You will just have to find one that your baby will eat. Get samples of the ones that you want to try out. REad the ingredients and make sure there is no corn, no wheat or soy and no by-products.

Nutro Natural Choice here as well.. i've been feeding it for 3 years.. My girls are picky and this is the only food they'll eat.. I tried Royal Canin but they didn't like it and to me, it smelled like a bag of grease.. Tried Merrick... they didn't like it... so this is what I'm sticking to..

I was curious also as to what the best dog food might be.
My vet said not to change the food rapidly.
That can be costly to "try out" different brands.

I use Nutrical also to make sure there is a balance. And I do feed baked potato when she snubs her nose at her kibble.

Please post any information you may have that suggests good dog food.

we feed canidae all life stages (gino) and AFS or natures variety raw (bentley and miss buffey) ... my kids would eat anything though ... they just love food in general :D

everyone has different opinions on what the best food is.... you can be assured that any suggestion you get from someone here will be a very good food. I personally think Merrick is great, wet & dry mix.. puppy plate cause Roxi is 8 months old. Some people cook fresh foods for their dogs everyday!! I know I' a good mom but wow they are awesome cause I just wouldn't have the time!! Lucky lil' Yorks!!

I feed my babies wellness also, I have four yorkies two of them are going on 3years old and the other two just turned 1. I used to feed my babies Royal Canine but when they recalled it I switched them to wellness, I feed my babies a variety a food. I feed my older dogs the dry food super5mix complete health chicken recipe, and every other day the canned white fish and sweet potato formula for their coats and skin. My babies had extra dry skin until I switched them from Royal Canine to Wellness and started feeding them the white fish. For the older dogs every couple of months I mix it up with the different variety dry foods and canned foods always sure to keep my babies diet balanced but at the same time give them variety, I doubt they like to eat the same food every single day of their lives for the rest of their lives. I give my babies a different flavored food from wellness every three months for variety. I give the babies Super5mix just for puppies and every other day I mix a little of the just for puppy canned food. I give them the pure treats and they never leave food in their bowls. Try mixing a little bit of the canned food with the dry food and see if this works.

I agree with Melanie.. A lot has to do with opinions.. These 5 star rated foods might be great in regards to the ingredients but it may not work well with your dog in particular.... I tried Merrick and my girls didn't like it but when they did eat it, it gave them to runs (too rich, I think), so back to Natural Choice we went.. I'd love to try the Nature's Variety Raw but they don't like raw... :rolleyes: crazy bunch of kids here... But I'm not saying to go out and buy Iams or something.. A friend of mine has been feeding Purina Puppy Chow to her yorkies since day 1 and they're doing great, but I wouldn't feed it to mine... :)

What kind of foods do you feed your baby?....I gave my Bryan chkn breast tonight with rice & Brocolli and he loved it!!! Is that good for him?

I feed Nature's Variety Instinct and can. Charlie loves it, licks the bowl clean every time. Will be starting him on Nature's Variety Raw this week as well!!
