Help diarrhea is back! Kramer has diarrhea again, last time he had it we thought it was the rabbit poop he was eating, so i now watch him like a hawk, but he tries to grab everything off the floor and last night he had diarrhea all night. I also seem to think that the canned food might be doing it, i have been through about 5 different canned foods, just started him on wellness, he loves it, i only mix 1 teaspoon with his dry food, can this be causing it, maybe his stomach can't handle it, if i just put out dry he hardly eats, he was used to having canned mixed in when i brought him home. What could be causing this? Oh by the way he has gone to the vet ran all kinds of blood, urine, stool tests everything negative. |
Hmmm - what exactly are you feeding? What kind of dry? What flavor, exactly, of wellness? When did you start this flavor of Wellness etcetera? When was the last bout with diarrhea - and - for how long were his stools "firm" before he had problems again? I'm sorry you're going through this, I know how frustrating it can be, bc I've been right there too! :( |

I have the same questions as Ann. My first question is are their gums pink? Do they appear dehydrated? |
You know, I have 7 they eat natural balance and chicken breast twice daily, and charley bears for snacks. They do fine then for some unknown reason they get the poops...we have it now, Shilo and Toby, we called vet, tested poop, everything fine, temp normal, eat, drink, play normal.....but the problem, everyone smells everyones poop so it gets passed around. Now we have two more with soft stool. Yikes. We go thru this thankfully only about once a year. Sometimes I think I over kill. You know, keeping them and their dishes and toys clean, I just dont have a clue. Everyone is on bland diet for now, and have a call in to vet again for some flagil. |
i think ima stop giving him this 'breath fresh' liquid that you add to the water to make his breath better, and see if that helps. it was another night of diahrheaa. i'll see if this help. |
When Kasey had a night of diarrhea, up every two or three hours, I took her to the vet and she said to not give her solids for 24 hours so her digestive track can calm down. Her biggest concern was that Kasey would be dehydrated, and when they tested her they found she was, so she had an iv for a little while to add some fluids under her coat, which she would absorb over time. The vet said to get low sodium/non-fat chicken broth and mix a little bit of it with unflavored Pedialyte (which is what they give babies who are dehydrated from diarrhea). Today is the first time since then (many months ago) that she got diarrhea again, so I picked up some Pedialyte and the broth, and once again she drank it right down. She loves it! And she seems to be feeling better. So that's what I'm doing for now.... Gave her a tiny bit of boiled chicken breast tonight, but otherwise will watch her till morning.... Good luck! I know how worrisome it can be. If the diarrhea doesn't go away within a few days, be sure to check again with the vet to be sure the pups aren't dehydrated, as that can really damage their organs. All best - Kim |
One more thing -- I found this website which includes some of the info I heard from the doctor. Hope it might be helpful: http://www.dogchatforum.com/diarrhea-dog.htm |
Sometimes when you change foods all of a sudden it will cause the runs...also to help with diareahia (I don't know how to spell it LOL) is canned pumpkin. |
Switching food is extremely hard on their tummy. Sounds like a bit of canned pumpkin (not premade pie filling) would be beneficial to calm down his stomach. Charlie's tummy became upset from too much wet rabbit food (rich), and he had loose stools. Added pumpkin and he is fine today. You might try a bit of warm water in his kibble to soften and bring out the flavor. Warmly, Deborah |
1 Attachment(s) Kramer is better, haven't been on here in a few days, but he does have this problem on and off, he had it for two weeks the first time, thought it was from the rabbit poop he was eating outside, but all his tests came back ok, then it started again, but it only lasted the one night now he is good again, so i have been mixing in wet food again, the wellness. Let's see what happens. |
