Ice on Ice causing itching?????? My yorkie has been suffering from itching. I recently switched to Canidae and the itching has decreased but today I bathed him in Chris Christensen Day to day shampoo and conditioner. Today I used the Ice on Ice which I do not use everytime because he is usually whining, and I try to make the whole bathing process quick. Today I used the Ice on Ice, which I did not use last week and now he is itching like crazy. I am going to bath him again tomorrow and not use the Ice on Ice. I am wondering if anyone has noticed any of their furbabies itching after using this product??? Or if anyone would recommend a product to use with their furbabies that have been itching??? I love the Canidae- my friend got it for her dogs, her one dog has his hips replaced and since starting it he has more energy and is walking better, her father's dog is eating it now - a lab and his eyes had been running- now cleared up. I did see itching decreasing until today - Thanks for any responses:) :) :) :) :) |
I am not familiar with that product, I just wanted to say that I am glad you found a food that seems to be working for your baby! Tell me about ICE on ICE... what is it? |

I have the Ice on Ice and use it on them and have had no problems with them scratching. But it is a possibility that he is allergic to it, not all products are good for every dog. I know several who use Minksheen with no problems but when I used it on Scampers he had an allergic reaction from it and was scratching like crazy. Try giving him a nice oatmeal bath tomorrow and see if that helps. Hope your baby feels better soon!! |
I use Aveeno Oatmeal for Ellie. |
I have used ice on ice for years and many yorkies.. had no problem.. |
Thanks for the advice--- I may be wrong about the Ice on Ice--- I am just trying find out through the process of elimination what is causing the itching.. I am going to bath him again today and not use it and see what happens--- if he is still itching then I will look for something else. I was so happy with the itching decreasing with the new dog food - I was hoping that it was the problem.... |
I had a similar problem with Kramer, not the ice on ice, but another detangler and conditioner, i also wasn't sure if this was causing it or if he just had dry skin, then i bought a medicated shampoo for dry skin and it helped him and now i'm back to using the spray and he doesn't itch any more, i also switched his food, don't know if that has helped also. Maybe a combination of it all. |
Since skin is an elimination organ, I almost always believe that the skin shows what is happening on the inside of the body. In other words, if the skin is irritated - we need to fix something from the inside out. That isn't to say that topical products (like sprays) can't irritate the skin, they can. But I think ongoing skin problems have more to do with chronic internal issues (that can then also cause/exacerbate external issues) that have to be uncovered and addressed. I think you're on the right track with looking at the diet. You could also try Eicosaderm from www.vetamerica.com - it is fish oil + vitamin E and will help w/ skin/coat - provides EFAs. :) |
Will it hurt to give him that with the Canidae food???? I will try anything. I did bathe him in Aveno oatmeal body wash and it definatley calmed the itching down- itching every once in awhile but not like before. He has only been on the food two weeks so it may take some more time to really see but so far it has helped. Thanks for the advice.. Let me know what you think about the eicosaderm with the food.. |

I believe that an oatmeal based shampoo would really make him feel better! I use Ice on Ice on my two and have never had probs, but every dog is different so I am not sure if it would cause a reaction. |
I occassionally - about once a week give him dynovite-- should I continue if I start using the Eicosaderm.. I do not want to overload his system.. Thanks for all your help... |
He is doing better with the oatmeal bath from Aveeno.. Thanks for the help... |
