pigs ears? are they safe for my babies So double trouble, Max and Ezee, are occupied for hours, with pig ears. I I bought one, and cut it in half. Basically it looks almost the same after a week of intense chewing and playing. The points are softened, and missing a tiny little bit. SO this tells me that they are ingesting a very small amount of this, but they are teething and loving this as a special toy? WHat do you YOrky experts think???? :aimeeyork |
Well I'm no 'yorkie expert' but have talked with my vet regarding pig ears/hooves and as long as I'm watching my guys when they're chewing on them, he said it's fine. Both of them love them and I never give them treats/toys without supervising them. |
I Give My Baby Treats But I Dont Think I Would Give Her Pig Ears |
Harley loves his! That's what the lady i bought him from used. She asked me not to buy rawhide for him to chew on. Harley's mom |
I gave them to them once and they loved them but I have heard some scary stories so I don't don't it anymore. Pork, in general, is not supposed to be good for yorkie's sensitive stomachs and they are prone to choking and blockages so I just don't feel comfortable with them. The breeder I got my newest puppy from has been breeding for over 30 years and she doesn't let any "beef products" touch her dog's lips either. I am trying to adhere to this. She allows only boiled chicken or turkey other than dog food. |
You know i was confused. Harley only chews on those hoofs - i don't know what they are made of. I guess I was thinking of those. Sorry for the confusion. |
Pigs ears I give them to my boys about once a month and only when I can be available to watch them. They love them, but then my boys are easy on food, etc. They will eat almost anything. I hate the way that they smell up the apartment, but they go nuts. I buy each one their own, but they always want what the other has, kind of like kids. LOL. Yesterday, I bought each one one, Benni took his up on the bed and spent about 45 minutes deliberately burying it, taking his time and arranging it just so. Then he lays down next to it, and Garett comes sniffing around, finally Gar lies down facing Benni and the coveted buried pigs ear. Every time Gar makes a tentative approach, Benni snaps at the air while tossing his head telling him Back off! There is another one just layign on the floor, but they both want the same one. So Gar sits and twitches and cries like a wussy little boy and this goes on for hours. They actually woke me up twice last night playing keep away and crying for hours on end. |

You can always try greenies. The petite size keeps Linus occupied for about 3 hours. I also get the edible Nylabones and he takes a couple of days to get through that for some reason. You could also get a Kong and stuff it with something. That encourages chewing and is a treat and they last forever! |
how about Dentabones and things like that? are they really bad?/ my petsmart trainor gave the m to us at graduation |
no not for my precious yuk gross horrible and I think dangerous :) dianne :) |
We've never given Maggie pig ears but I'm sure she'd LOVE them. She loves everything!! We got her a Nylabone as her first toy a year ago when we got her and she still chews on it. And she's also loves the Dentabones. We always pick them up out of her reach when we're not around, though. |
