yeast infection? can anyone tell me if there yorkie has ever had a yeast infection and what are the signs.. thanks! |
Dogs can get yeast infections - most commonly you'd see them in armpits, between toes/toepads, chest, armpits, ears, they may have stinky eyes. Tut, it also goes intestinal too - and those symptoms can be latent, but really just as nagging and miserable (just more subtle). What are you seeing? |
well her hair has recently gotten really oily and she seems to be kinda stinky but it's like a smelly dog smell.. and she's really itchy.. but see she had liver shunt surgery a month ago, and since then she has gotten oily and her hair has also fallen out.. but she has been itchy for a while now.. the hair loss i was told was because the stress of the surgery, anesthesia.. but now she is also having these symptoms.. |
Is she eating Royal Canin LS 14 by chance? |
re: ellie may no, you're probably gonna get on me for this but she is eating K/D... and some L/D dry during the dry.. she was eating the L/D before surgery and since surgery she's been mostly eating the K/D... should i try the RC 14? i still have a month til' her bile test.. do you think it's the food? |

Science Diet is fine when you need to feed a prescription diet (I mean gross but fine...what are you gonna do, you know?). I would NOT change to Royal Canin if the Science Diet is giving her itchies because the RC might make it way worse. Ellie was on it and had the itchies like crazy. Why is she on K/D though (I know it can be used because it is low protein..)? It has pork in it which isn't the best thing to feed a liver compromised dog. If I had to feed Science Diet it would be CANNED L/D and if I had to feed kibble it would be Royal Canin LS 14 (which as I said before causes itchies so it might not work in this case). I wouldn't be surprised if the Sci Diet is causing the itchies but I don't know what to say really because it is either that, Natural Balance Vegetarian (which I don't know if that would work in your case), another low protein food with the right ingredients or homecooking which takes a lot of research or a nutritionist. |
i knew you'd get on me about the K/D... but her specialist suggested it... she doesn't like the canned L/D.. she will tolerate the dry L/D though.. i think i will try the RC.. i did try try the vegetarian too... she didn't care for it... hopeully this whole food situation will only be going on for another month!!! so, anyways you do think it's the food huh? |
LOL...I don't know about the losing hair part or the oily skin but the itchies could be the food. After switching foods it could take 60 days to see results. Then you will know if that is the problem. I want to strongly suggest that you reconsider using the RC only because I have been through it with Ellie and ever since she ate it (she was on it for less than a week), we can't get ahead of her allergies. She is always tearing her ear apart now... I just want your furkid to be okay... I hope I'm wrong and it works for you.:) Maybe it's worth a try? I would recommend this food for anyone with a liver compromised dog without allergies... If the K/D is working for you, great but evidently it isn't if she is itching. The first ingredient (besides water) is corn starch. Dry L/D has ethoxyquin in it... |
i know i know... well then i guess i can get the veggie food out (i still have it) and see what happens... or i can try baking the L/D..i haden't tried that yet.. thanks for your help.. i'll just skip the RC then.. |
so..this doesn't sound like a yeast infection? |
The canned L/D has corn product in it. That might bother her too. I would try the veggie again. Can you add something to the kibble to make it more appealing? |
