Opinions?? Science Diet/Nature's Best/Puppy Lamb & Rice? I recently tried Bella on Wellness because I'd heard so many good things about it. Well, she wouldn't touch it. I requested samples on other good ones, and they should arrive soon, but needed something quickly. I tried Science Diet/Nature's Best/Puppy Lamb & Rice. The ingredients looked great and I could buy @Petsmart. No Beef, Corn, or Wheat. She loves it. Any opinions on quality?? Bella was on Bil Jac from the breeder. I later changed her to Iams when I think all the problems started with itching. The vet thought she was too young (8.5 months old) to have food allergies, but I'm not convinced. I know, I was not aware of YT then. Glad I found it! Thanks...... or :thumbdown |
SD Nature's Best is far from the worst dog food ever. I don't like the idea of feeding pork fat and it wouldn't work for you if your pup is allergic to wheat or soy. I would try to find a better food but this isn't THAT bad. |

:) SD is not the best food on the market...but sounds like you already know that.;) What is considered the "best food" on the market (aside from being opinion to begin with) may not be the "best food" for your individual dog. That being said, I do feed this food as part of the diet for my 3 and have no complaints. Granted, they get other foods and supplements as well. If you try a few things and determine that his is the food that is best for your little one, supplement her diets with anything that may be missing as well. |
I started feeding my puppy Merrick's Puppy Plate but heard such great things about Wellness For the Puppy, so Jamie's currently eating a mix of the two. He loves both and just devours it! From what I've heard though, Merrick's is pretty good food, too. |
SD has no Beef, Corn, or Wheat. It is the Puppy Natures Best with Lamb/Rice. I didn't realize about the pork though. Thanks.......I hope the samples come in a couple of days. Great advice on other threads about the samples. They are really nice about sending those for you to try. I can't wait to try the Soup for the Puppies Soul. I also just bought the Missing Link as supplement. I was confused thought about the vitamin E. I didn't see that ML had Vit E. Do I need to also add this and where do I get it?? Thanks again.:thumbs up YT friends are a Blessing! |

I'm hoping it will help with her skin problems. This only started after Christmas with the scratching, biting, and losing hair on back legs and under tail. She had such thick hair as a puppy and up til then. I changed her food to Iams and Caesars canned. Now I know that was bad for her. Ironically, she was also in her first heat during all this, which is soon to be over? I'm just glad I found YT for answers. The Vet doesn't seem to have all the answers for our little babies, even though I like her new vet. |

I would go with fish oil and vitamin E also. Missing Link is okay but for some people it is just a waste of money. Thinning hair makes me think of mites and itching around the back makes me think of fleas. It could be food allergies but with that they would scratch their face more so and bite their paws. Chicken Soup has caused a few dogs to itch. How about Wellness or Natural Balance? |
check for mange Have your vet check for mange - i have heard of 3 or 4 young dogs lately that all of a sudden when they are stressed ( such as coming in heat ) they develope sarcoptic mange ( it is carried by most dogs and gotten from their mothers but not evident unless their immune system is off balance ) I would definitely rule that out and there is another food on the market that is superb for coat / skin problems or i should say to eliminate the problems - it is called Lifes Abundance and you can see and compare it by going to www.healthypetnet.com/nolensyorkies |
