my yorkie threw up.....help My little pup just vomitted 3 hours after getting his first series of shots, getting his first dose of de-worming medication, and taking a half drop of Clavamox(for and infection that was caused by the breeder giving him a shot with a dirty needle). I know this is alot for a little 6 week old pup to ingest but Im worried sick! From experience out there does anyone have any advice or should I wait till morning and take him back to the vet? |

They are very light pinkish white. |
Call the ER if they are anything but nice and pink and tell them he has thrown up from the shots and they will tell you what to do. That isn't good... |
White gums can mean shock which is possible after vaccines. Six weeks is very young to vaccinate and it shouldn't be done with an infection. It may have been the lepto vaccine. Please call the vet. If it is shock he needs to be seen immediately. |

Oh no he didnt get the lepto this time. Just the parvo, distemper, and corona virus vaccine. It was actually a little bump on his neck I noticed when bathing him and I took him to the vet and she said it was an abcess, it had puss and she drained it. She said it was most likely from a dirty needle when the breeder gave him a vaccine at 3 weeks of age. |

My Yorkie got some vaccines once and threw up, collapsed and went into shock (pale gums). This happened only about 20-30 minutes after it was given. They can be scary. She had to have two injections to bring her out of it. The vomiting (although not good at all, especially in a 6 week old and worth a call to the vet) doesn't bother me nearly as much as pale gums... |
Well..... last night it was absolutely impossible to get a vet. See we live in a small, very small little town deep in south texas and there are no ER vet places around(closest is an hour away). Soooo, I mashed up food for him since he hadnt eaten and gave him some water through a syringe (for some reason he wouldnt drink out of the bowl) and then just prayed for a good night..... This morning I woke up he was eating, drinking, and had a bowel movement. So now Im just waiting for the vet to open so I can call her and ask her what she thinks might of happened?????????? He had no signs of shock, but his gums were very light pink(they still are) so Im gonna mention this to her, thank you all so much for responding. Also... what do pale gums indicate rather than maybe low blood sugar? |

Are you sure this light color isn't normal for him? Light gums can mean anemia or shock (low blood pressure). Shock is VERY dangerous and can result in death. The vet will probably tell you to just watch him now because he wouldn't be doing much of anything if he was that sick. I would make all vaccine appts. for early morning in case there is a reaction then. You would have all day to take him back in... The vet also should know about this in case he/she wants to premedicate before the next sets of vaccines. If you ever have an emergency like this again, you could try childrens benadryl (not sure of the dose right now). That is more for non-life threatening situations though. I would still call the vet to be safe. |

I read your first post with the vaccine and other medication(s) that were given to your little one during this one vet visit especially with your pup only be 6 weeks old. I am surprised your vet administered it all at this visit. Pups and dog sometimes have serious reactions to vaccines, etc. even death. If I may, I would suggest that when your little one needs any type of vaccines, etc. to have only one done at a time and reschedule for any other one that he may need to prevent reactions. I read your second post and was glad to see that he is doing better. |
I called the vet this morning and told her about his vomit incident last night and she said as long as it didnt happen again hell be fine. This morning he ate and drank water as if there was no tomorow and now it is 7:50 pm and he hasnt eaten since this morning. I had him outside running around quite a bit today and I figured he would be really hungry by now but hes not. So Im gonna ask you all this " How often did your pups eat when they were 6 weeks old?" Is there something I can do to stimulate his appetite. I havent changed his food. The breeder had been feeding him science diet puppy bites and thats what I give him. His weight is 1.25 1b at 6 weeks..... |
Since you pup is sooo young, I would want him eating at least 5 times a day. Hypoglycemia is a very real possibility. Can you go to canned food if he isn't eating? How about Merrick puppy food or Evangers, or Canidae...? |
SIX WEEKS IS SO EARLY TO BE AWAY FROM MOMMA. OF COURSE IF THE BREEDER WAS GIVING SHOTS AT THREE WEEKS THEN MAYBE ALOT BETTER IN YOUR HANDS. AT SIX WEEKS THEY SHOULD BE EATING ROUGHLY 5 TO6 TIMES PER DAY. I WAS TOLD TO WATCH GETTING THEM TOO WOUND UP AT THAT AGE BECAUSE OF HYPOGLYSIMIA(SP). I WOULD BE CONCERNED IF HE ISNT EATING NOW. Riley vomited too when he got vaccinated. Actually he has gotten sick every time.:( Anyway, I have free fed Riley since day one. I didn't get him till 12 weeks though. All though he was free fed, I still made sure he ate enough. |
Okay everyone...... I went to the Vet againnnnn this morning and she tested for coccida and parvo and both were negative although he does have hook worms. So now he is on the deworming medication and she wanted to go ahead and give coccida medication just because he has had the symptoms of it eg) loss of appetite and loose stools. Although these symptoms could also be because of the hookworms. eeegghhhhh! So now he is on this goooey vitamin supplement because of the loss of appetite, hopefully he will be eating again soon. Im just glad parvo was negative because my friends maltipoo died of that :( |
I was wondering if it was the dewormer. When I dewormed Cleo when I got her, she threw up everytime I would give her the medicine. |
