Is it ok to walk them with LP? I completely forgot to ask my vet this yesterday when we took Tatum for her check up. I was wondering if it would be ok for me to take Tatum on walks since she has LP? I didn't know if constantly walking on a leash would be ok for her? I don't want to make her little legs hurt? :( I haven't taken them on a walk since she was diagnosed with LP because I didn't know if I should, but I really want to take them for a walk today because they want to go soooo bad. I won't put them on the leash coupler because Stedman pulls her, so hubby and I will walk them separately if it's ok. Does anyone know??? |
walking is good! it will help keep the muscles in her legs strong so she'll have less of a problem after surgery. Most times the muscles in the LP leg atrophy. In small dogs sometimes LP can be ignored if you walk them and build up the muscles. take her for a walk and if you notice her getting tired or sore pick her up. have fun!!! |
Question I'm a new Yorkie owner. What is LP? Thanks! |

Here's a little more information: http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=457 |
Before Cocoa had her knee surgery for LP we would go for walks. I just watched her to see when she started doing that weird limp-kick when it slips out, and I would pick her up for the rest of the walk. You will know when your little one has had enough because you are "da mama!":D |

She should continue to receive exercise. Just don't make it for too long. Maybe cut your usual walk in half. Just watch her for signs of fatigue. If you stop keeping her active she will gain weight which will be bad for the LP. |

Lacy has LP (grade 3 right leg and 2 left leg) that has never bothered her...no pain, limping or anything. I take her on several short walks to potty every day and occasionally longer ones...she runs around the house and up and down the stairs, and ran around in Cynthia's back yard today. She's an active girl and it would be impossible for me to slow her down...she does have VERY strong leg muscles though. |
