Change of Breath?
 
Lily's breath seems to have changed..she was a little sick the past week (loose stools and then some diarrhea) she is fine now but her breath smells different..i was just wondering if anyone had heard about this before? I read online that it can happen when a health issue occurs but I just wanted some opinions. Thanks

maybe i should mention that it has sort of a metallic smell to it..

Might just be dehydrated a bit. Not sure about the metallic part. I know if my dogs' mouths dry out a bit, their breath can be a bit funny. Maybe encourage them to drink a little more than usual and see what happens...? :)

It can be for several different reasons...I know that health issues are sometimes the reason for that...My yorkie who has liver problems has different smelling breath when he is feeling sick as well...It's because of the toxin build-up in his system. It's almost an ammonia or just yucky breath.

I wonder if whatever gave her diarrhea is giving her the bad breath. Intestinal and liver problems could cause it. Are all her baby teeth gone?

That's what I though too but now I don't know. She was spayed in January and the vet didn't say anything about getting her teeth pulled. I probably should have asked but I was already so nervous about her getting spayed. I think she lost all of her baby teeth.
I tried to look in her mouth though and I noticed a brown spot on one of her teeth. I tried to get it off but I couldn't. I'm thinking maybe that has something to do with it? Isn't she too young to have teeth problems?

Unfortunately, no Yorkie is too young for teeth problems.
First, I would make sure she has no baby teeth left. That could be the problem.
If they are gone then I would start brushing everyday. If the brown gets too bad she will need a dental. Brown equals tartar and tartar equals horrible breath...

Thanks, I will call the vet tomorrow since they are closed today. I will get her teeth checked out. I do try to brush them often but I will do it everyday now. I hope it is nothing too serious, I just worry so much about her! Thanks again
