Feeding help.... I feed can food and kibble. (I plan on home cooking when I get Dr. P's book). I mix canned with kibble for breakfast, lunch, dinner. I free feed just kibble in between. I do the free feed because 2-3 days a week I am at work for 7 hrs. She doesn't really like the kibble alone. I worry about her eating when I am at work. Does anyone feed only can food? I am going to start to offer yogurt, cottage cheese, boiled egg once a day. Is a tsp. enough? I am thinking about using the canned puppy plate. The dry kibble is Innova. She is around 10-11 weeks old. Do you have to supplement vitamins when they are on puppy food? (Supplements are confusing) I just want her eating good til I homecook. Sorry this is so long. Thanks.:) |
If you are feeding a food that says AAFCO on it (Innova does and I think Merrick does too), you do not have to supplement. I highly UNrecommend;) supplementing vitamins when you are feeding a balanced dog food. There are plenty of vitamins in the food already. |
I haven't used supplements yet. I assumed because she was on dog food I didn't have to. I am worried about homecooking and supplementing. Is there a supplement with everything in it so I only need one thing? I read that I would need vit. e, fish oil, cal/phos. Is there a product with everything in it? |
Jobey is 8 weeks old so I am still giving in Nutri-cal. It's a high calorie supplement in case they're not getting enough from dry food. You can also give them carrots(tiny pieces of course) along with the boiled egg and yogurt. I think Eukanuba has a dry food just for Yorkshire Terriers. I give Jobey Eukanuba and he seems to be doing okay. He's a little chunky, though:) |
There is one all-in-one supplement made just for homecookers called BalanceIT. It is a good supplement but does have menadione in it which I think is a bad thing. BalanceIT makes a few different kinds. I use it but the kind that fits Ellie's needs is BalanceIT K and that doesn't have menadione in it. BalanceIT K is not meant for healthy dogs. So I'm not much help.:) |
Thanks. But could you tell me exactly what supplements I need to give w/homecooking? What form to buy? How much to give per day? I am guessing I need more then just a reg. dog vitamin. I am sorry.:( I am getting a handle on recipes but the supplements and amounts of them are stumping me. |
