Slimy Poo?? Hi, Benji (Yorkie) is now 10 months, since we got him he has problems with his tummy, had been in hospital a few times, with diarree. We fed him Science Hill and chicken breast without the skin, now he is on Royal Canine. Shilho is the same age and gets the same food as him and she is as healthy as anything! I notice the other night that his pooh is brown with a lot of slime/jelly and traces of blood, not much but still visible. What could the problem be? He eats healthy and drinks a lot of water. I am very worried and do not know what to do, everytime we take him to the vet they put him on a drip and says he has diarree, might be of something he ate. If any one might have experience the same problem and have an answer I would be greatfull! Thank you, Linda |
Has blood work been done? Wylie's Mom's nutritionist gave her a recipe for IBD that might help you if you can't get this under control. It is white fish, mashed potato and green beans. You would have to supplement if you use it long term though. Royal Canin has caused lots of Yorkies to itch very badly and it also has been known to cause GI upset. |
Slimy Poo Hi, thanks for this, the vet has taken blood but nothing show anything. They were on Science Hill and for a month now on Royal Canine, this happend when he was on the Science Hill. What is your take on Bento Kronen? Thanks Linda |
I just looked at their site and I don't really like it. There are too many allergens in it (corn, wheat, flax) and a couple unnamed animal products (animal fat, poultry). I have heard that Wellness may be a good food for stomach problems but it is too rich for some dogs. Does this ever happen right after you give him something fatty? If this continues, I would have him at the vet for a bile acid test. |
Royal Canin causes digestive upset in alot of Yorkies. My Lexi has the exact same problem you are describing if she eats too much Nutro. I would suggest switching back to the Science Diet--not forever necessarily, but just to see if it makes a difference as you KNOW what to expect when he eats that. |
Have they checked his ears because brownie had a double ear infection & he has slimey poop |
Id switch to a higher quality food like orijen. buy a couple trial bags or email the company and they will give them to you for free. they cost 3 bucks for about a week and a half worth of food. try it out and see how yur furkid does. |
Do mean Science Diet? If it were me, I would discontinue the SciDiet, the Royal Canin AND the chicken breast asap. All of those things could be problems. From there, it depends on what you're willing to do - are you willing to cook or do you want kibble or canned or raw? And, have all his blood tests (liver, pancreas, kidney) come back okay? Slimy/bloody poos can progress into alllll sorts of worsening problems, so I'd definitely suggest making some changes - the suggestions, though, depend on which direction you want to take (that determines supplements too, so...).... |
