Need Sleep Help?? any advise would be greatly appreciated. Sadie is now four months old and still wakes up every 2-3 hours per night to be let out. She does go to the bathroom every time I let her out, but I don't think she's waking up just for that, I think she wants in our bed, which I'm not about to start letting happen. Any advise on how to get her to stay asleep for at least 6 hours would be greatly appreciated. Our other yorkie Lexus would sleep at least 6-8 hours by the time she was 3 months without getting up - big difference. Thanks. |
have you tried ignoring her one night to see if she really can hold it for another couple hours? she might think she's suppose to wake you up in the middle of the night to let her out because its become routine for her. |
exactly - that's what I did. I had Bailey on a schedule to pee at 12am. And he wakes up every night at that time. one night I said - go to bed Bailey and he did not wake up until 630 am for breakfast! If he keeps whining and sounds destructive with his toys in his crate then he really needs to go. |
At 4 mo. I was setting a timer every 4 hrs. so that I would take Snowboy or Chipper out. At 5 mo. I set it for 5 hrs. By the time they turned 6 mo. I was fairly certain they would make it all night, but then I have my furbabies in bed with me and I notice if one is getting restless. Quite often I have read on different threads that a puppy can hold it 1 hr. per month. Good luck. Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
the rule i have heard from both professional dog trainers and my vet is take their age lets say 3 months old add 1 to the age (4) and that is how many hours they can hold it. My pups were waking up like yours when they were younger but they have definately gotten over it ( i think it comes with age). You just have to tell them who is the leader (ever heard of the "pack dog" theory?). try playing soothing music close to their cage. Where is their cage located at night? can she see you? you might want to cover her cage with a towel or think blanket, not only will it make her feel safer (blocking out all noise and light) it will also serve to keep her from feeling a draft and/or other things that might be awakening her during the night. |
