6 Star vs. 5 Star Dog Food Ariel is currently on NV Raw, and is doing wonderfully on it. Less scratching, smaller & less frequent poops, etc. I tried giving Belle one raw medallion a couple days ago ... she sniffed it, and walked away  I was so surprised at her reaction, considering Ariel can't sit still when I'm preparing her food. Belle is eating Canidae at the moment, but her food is almost gone, and am looking for another brand for some variety. In reference to dogfoodanalysis.com, should I stick with a 6 Star or a 5 Star Dog Kibble? I know that the 6 Star has the highest amount of protein. But, I've read that too much protein can affect their liver and kidney, while others have rejected that idea. Especially since this is dry, cooked protein. If I go with a 6 star food, I'm going to go with Orijen and if I go with a 5 star food, I'm going to go with Wellness. Belle has no allergies and such...she's very healthy :D So, 6 star or 5 star? |

I would feed the Wellness. I would also feed canned food before kibble. |
Many yorkies do very well with high protein foods while many others don't do so well...It might be an individual thing. Just do what is best for your dog. You might try one and decide that it's not the right one for Belle. Good luck! I agree that premium canned is better because it contains the much needed moisture and is less processed. |
My yorkies do great on high protein orijen so i see no reason why with a healthy yorkie you should be fine. 6 star all the way. |

High protein should only be a problem if there is an underlying health issue. High protein DRY diets can cause dogs to be quite thirsty - so may notice quite a bit of drinking water. You could add canned as well - or, sprinkle extra water on the kibble. Otherwise, some folks have noticed that they've had to start letting their dogs out in the middle of the night bc the dogs are drinking so much more water - not with everyone, but it has been mentioned. Canned, of course, is higher quality nutrionally than kibble, but do what works for you! :D |

My Sweetie itches alot.. and is a little over weight 10lbs extra skin around her body. I'm feeding her Blue Buffalo Light.. do you think if I switched to 5 star or 6 star she could lose weight and stop itching?? |

I think we both took each others comments wrong... You had put your response in quotes and I did take it as unkind, so I responded with quotes. I am truly sorry for any confussion :( :) |

My Tessa is on Orijen and loves it:) She poops about twice day and her coat is shiny and her skin isn't dry (which is amazing seeing how cold it has been here and how high we've had to keep the furnace:( ) I don't find she drinks anymore than normal. I would highly recommend it and seeing as the fish they put into it comes from "my" lake, I know it is good:D |
