New Bacterial Concerns I just received this news, Most of you are probably aware of this, so for those who are not aware, please make sure there is no standing water outside in planters ,gutters, etc.. before you let your pets outside New Bacterial Concerns July 14, 2005 A dangerous bacterial disease that can be passed from dogs to humans may be in resurgence. Once primarily found on farms, leptospirosis is appearing in urban areas, causing veterinarians to issue new warnings. Water contaminated with infected animals' urine is a typical source of the bacteria, which can cause a wide range of symptoms in humans, such as fever, headache, chills, and vomiting, and can damage the kidneys of both humans and dogs. Ask your vet about exposure levels in your area and appropriate prevention steps. |
What is the source of this info? Most experts I have read have determined that the risk of side effects to the lepto vaccine given to a small dog outweighs the benefits. I am concerned about this news because vets will try to re instate this vaccine as a necessary one and it can be deadly. Please advise so we can research it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. |
I receive a news letter from dogage, and they send a dog tip or pet news of the week, Im sorry I should have included the link.. let me know if it works? http://www.dogage.com/index.aspx/ll/rslt |
I guess if you live in a rural area it is a must to get vaccination for lepto. As far as i know it is only transmitted by rats and can be deadly, specially to small dogs. Mojo is always vaccinated for lepto. |
