Can I give these two together?
 
Tatum is on Nutramax Welactin 3 (from our vet)..she gets 1 pump full on her food every morning.

I also just bought a bottle of VitaGlo Halo Dream Coat and was wondering if I could use this as well as the Welactin 3?

I would call and ask my vet tomorrow, but I'm sure he is just going to say that he has no idea what the Dream Coat is :rolleyes:

Both seem to be a supplement for the skin/coat full of fatty acids. I would not give both - you'll be overdoing it. Use one or the other

that might be too much for little tate..i would only use one at a time..Give tate tate kisses for us!

Hi Brooke! :D I would stay away from the Dream Coat for now - esp. w/ all of Tate's itchies right now; DC has soybean oil, other nut oils, wheatgerm oil - ALL potential allergens, which could irritate her already irritated system.

The Welactin is Salmon based - MUCH easier for her to convert/digest (although, Welactin has a trace of soybean oil as well, but less of it; I would actually recommend Eicosaderm more than anything for EFAs....). :D

I use Eicosaderm and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Funny, I was thinking of you this a.m. as I was perusing my new animal nutrition book, eating my morning kibble and reading the cal/phos section (1.2/1) and growing confused for you. Well, I need to re-read it again...I didn't feel like they did a great job. IF there does seem to be something worthwhile, I'm going to scan that section for you...but I need to digest it first. (AH! Bad pun, not intended)

The same one you got. I had posted (a couple weeks ago) in the thread where you said that you ordered it and I said (don't think you saw this part) that I had been looking at that book for a long time and was going to order it... One of the authors is Ellie's nutritionist. I also told you not to read it til I got mine.:p (kidding of course).

Ok - tossing the Dream Coat LOL. Thanks soo much girl! Actually, I think I am going to use this on my other babies (Pippi and Peaches) instead of just letting it go to waste ;) :thumbup: I'm sure they will love it!

I will start searching online for the Eicosaderm...I'll definitely get Tate a bottle and start using it instead ;) THANKS!!

Hi, I am just looking at this and wondering what is this used for????? I am assuming itchy skin right? Murphy is such an itchy little boy, maybe I should get him some if that is what it is for.

i use Eicosaderm, too and i also get it from Vetamerica instead of my Vet..so much cheaper! i also use Grizzly Bear Salmon oil too..i roate between them..Seriously, it's like a science project at my house..always rotating food and supplements :rolleyes: my hubby thinks i am crazy..lol

I use the grizzly salmon oil too and its great! Highly recommended.

Halo Dream Coat
 
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the Halo Dream Coat? Is it a bad product? I have been giving this to my Kimchee for the past 2 years and to my Mochi for the past week and they seem fine.

Oh Karen, I would definitely get some for Murphy if he is itchy! I'm sure it will really help him alot! Tate is on something similar right now...but it seems that this one may be even better for her because of her infection and allergies that we just found out she has.

LOL sounds just like my house girl :p Well, you know all the crazy things that we have to do around here LOL :rolleyes: I do love love love the Grizzly Salmon oil for them as well...I tried the Missing Link for a while but for all I know, Tatum could be allergic to that, so she is off of it now. I wanted to start her on something right away, so when the vet suggested the Welactin 3, I just took it as I was all out of the Grizzly Salmon Oil :(

Oh, I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with it, they were just saying that for MY baby it wouldn't be the best because it has a larger amount of soybean oil in it, which is a potential allergen...and my little girl has allergies and also has an infection around her nose right now...so would not be good for her.

I'm sure your baby is just fine on it though...especially if you've been giving it to her for 2 years :)

I also use Eicosaderm and have been really happy with the results. Lacy's hair is coarser and has never grown very well, but since I started the Eicosaderm in October her hair has been growing faster.

Oh, thanks for telling me that....a relief for me! After hearing some of you about the good rating of Grizzy Salmon Oil, I have ordered one for my 2 furbutts from vetAmerica.com. They just e-mailed me that some items were backordered, now I don't know how long I have to wait for the order to come. :(
