Biting rear end
 
My yorkie, Bixby, has recently had a bout of diarerra accompanied by some vomitting. We thought he ate something strange in the garden. He is acting normal (high enery and playful) except that he is now biting/chewing his rear end.
He is on revolution, so we don't think its worms of any sort, and his anal sacs were recently cleaned. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Runny stools sometime burn the tissue around the anus, due to the high acid content in the runny stool. You might want to try a little vaseline on his anus. Also, if you are not sure if he has worms, you might want to get him checked. There may be a parasite that Revolution doesn't cover.

You already pin pointed it. Angel had the SAME issue. The groomer did her anal glands (without my permission) and afterwards, she bit and chewed her bottom for days. I had to keep stopping her.

Her "hole" actually stuck outwards after they did this to her and stayed like this for months.

Eventually she will stop itching but there isnt much you can do to help her. :(

a little hydrocortizone cream or anti-itch cream worked for us. :D

Speaking of biting, Katia at least once a day bites her privates. Is there a reason for this?

I don't know. Does she go out in the grass? Grass can sometimes make them itchy down there due to allergies.

Not really, maybe twice a week she plays on grass. But she has always done this. I know this sounds ridiculous but I'm worried she may even bite it off.

Sometimes females can get a little yeast infection if they have enough fat to make folds around there. Other than allergies and that, I'm not sure. The only other thing that comes to mind is if she is peeing a lot more than usual then she could have a urinary tract infection.

Biting hindquarters
 
My puppy started scratching and biting his hind quarters untill he had almost pulled all the fur off his butt! I thought he might have fleas (I live in Florida and fleas and other bugs are a fact of life here) but after a flea treatment he was still scratching and biting. The vet did tests and said he had scabies. Scabies are skin mites and people can get them too! The vet gave him a shot and he got relief within 24 hours. I also bathed him with special (and stinky) shampoo for a few weeks.
