my poor tate tate!! i put salmon oil supplement in their food once a day. They are on Raw and i just mix the oil in. So fat they don't have the dry skin. Also they eat Orijen Six Fish kibbles once in a while. Both of mine are super picky..i mean Super!!! and they love the orijen. I think Six fish will be good for the dry skin since it has just fish and it is excellent for allergies. I know how you feel abt switching to a new food. It took me good 6-7 months to find something that they really like. I don't want you to end up getting a whole bag and have steddy not like it. if you want, i can send you a small bag of orijen and see if the kids like it? i know it's high in protein but as long as your baby is healthy and not have liver shunt problem ..i don't see why not? my vet says the high protein thing is just a myth and it is only bad when the dogs have unhealthy liver.

She doesn't get chicken. Since she has liver issues, her protein sources are low fat cottage cheese and brown eggs.

Eggs can be an allergen.;)

My maltese has the same problem. He has been itching alot lately and its mainly on his nose. He has some hair loss around his nose also. I stopped bathing them both weekly and have been doing it every 2 to weeks now. Suprisingly they are not stinky.:) I switched from Canidae to NV Raw and have noticed that he has been scratching a lot less and they do not have that doggy smell:thumbup: . I am currently looking for a oatmeal shampoo for him because his hair is looking a poofy:D Hopefully someone else has an ans.

Glad to hear Tatum isn't the only one with the itchy nose! Although...your poor baby :( It is just so awful for them and I don't know if your Maltese is as bad as Tate, but the poor girl was just going nuts today :( Thank goodness the Benadryl helped, otherwise I don't know what I would have done. It was making ME miserable just watching her be miserable :(

Hopefully someone can help us out on which oatmeal shampoo to buy!

when layla had HORRIBLY dry skin i would put oatmeal (the kind you make for breakfast) into a panty hoe and tie the end up and use it like a loofa... just squeezed it on her.. it made her skin and hair VERY VERY Soft.. might give that a shot.

I know, I might try to take them and the egg shells out and see. But she was like this when she was on Raw too! (no chicken, eggs or the shells at that time :( )

I use Aveeno Oatmeal body wash (I think it is) for Ellie. You can get it at the drugstore.

I would try fish oil and vitamin E.

When did this problem start?

Wow, I never would of thought to try that, thanks  I always just think "doggie shampoo" lol..

I am definitely going to try the Fish Oil and Vitamin E.

She has pretty much always had dry skin...but nothing like it is now. When she was younger I would see flakes here and there...but now there are more flakes and she is just always itching - MAINLY around her nose/mouth area. That seems to be her "problem area" although she does have dry skin on her back as well. She is just always itching, scratching and pawing at her little nose, which I think is causing some of the hair loss there..

I would probably change her food if you have the slightest thought that it is that. This stuff is good for environmental allergies but very little helps for food allergies unless you change it.

Brooke what about a fish based kibble??? NO chicken to worry about (who woulda thunk it.. chicken.. and how GREAT would it be for this to be the answer!) and the food will also have the omega fats you need!! she needs.. lol....

This crossed my mind as well! You know...I think I am seriously going to consider switching their food. I hate to because I don't want to risk Stedman going through his "non eating phase" again  but SURELY there is SOMETHING else out there that he will eat....geez... ! lol

It really is :( He freaked me out so bad when he got so thin...I don\'t know why but he just didn\'t like the Canidae :( Tate ate it very, very well...of course, she never has a problem eating ANY food lol...but she really did enjoy that food. Poor girl, her brother went and ruined it all for her, LOL :p

Oh and YES....little miss piggy Tator WILL eat any and all food that is within reach LOL. That is the only thing stopping me from putting them on two diff. foods.. :(

OF COURSE I have to have the complicated babies  LOL. One that doesn\'t eat much and is a super picky eater, and one that won\'t STOP eating and will eat anything in sight! And of course one with skin problems and one that is over there sitting on his THRONE with no problems at all...go figure
