We will never know for sure what brought it on, but at the time, he was a little overweight and we went out often and when we did, he'd get plain boiled chicken breast for dinner. I wouldn't think that would do it, but sometimes he'd eat a lot of it for such a small dog. And when we were home, I'd give him the last of my eggwhite omelette (nothing else but eggwhites), my hubby would give him a bit of toast sometimes, but we never gave him really high fat foods. At that time, I was feeding him a half container of the Cesar dog food (I know....but he loved it) and BilJack dry food. And one day, out of the blue, he just started vomiting~ and didn't stop. If he ate anything it all came back up, and if he didn't eat, it was just saliva, but it was nonstop. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis and spent the weekend in the vet hospital on IV's ....and they changed his diet to Hill's W/D b/c the vet told me that his being overweight could possibly have contributed to it (although he may have gotten into something out in the back yard, we just can't really know). And she told me not to give him ANY people food:rolleyes: . Which I'm sure is the best, but it's been a couple of years now and he's lost weight and I keep him exercised, so we do give him OCCASIONALLY a bit of dry toast or a bit of chicken and I've recently started giving him a little bit of peeled apple for a treat, since I don't have anything else I can use for a "treat". We haven't had one single problem since that first time, and I pray we never do; it was terribly scary and I was so afraid we'd lose him.
I am extremely watchful of what he picks up (they\'re so fast and they always seem to have their nose to the ground, so sometimes you don\'t even see them suck something into their mouth, LOL...Max has vomited a cigarette butt before:eek: , and the only place he could have found one was when we were walking and I watch him pretty closely, so it\'s hard. It\'s just amazing what they\'ll ingest! Good luck with your little one..I know it\'s hard sometimes to not give them what they\'re begging for or looking at you so sadly about, but you have to just keep telling yourself "this could kill him" over and over, no matter how safe the food might seem. |
