Ellie saw a Specialist Notice how this isn't in the emergency section....:D She is going to be okay!!!!!!!! I am one relieved momma.:) Okay, that was for the people that don't want to read all the medical jargon below.:) Ellie saw a specialist on Saturday and had an abdominal ultrasound. She has been having bladder problems and they found NO STONES, tumors or polyps!!!!! The internist doesn't know what the bladder problem is. We have done everything right to diagnose it so far. Another urine culture will be done to be safe. She was thinking possible vaginitis but since Ellie is so small she would have to be anesthnatized to swab her and I did not want to do that. I asked if we could treat her with antibiotics for it without a diagnosis and she totally agreed.:) So, Ellie will be going on Flagyl for ten days. She gave a few other possibilities for her bladder problems (including neurological) but I really don't want to go that far. I asked if Ellie is in any danger and she said no.:) But hopefully the antibiotics take care of it. Her liver looks excellent.:) There is nothing wrong that she could see. She used the most sensitive probe. U/S can't rule out liver shunt but since her preprandial bile acids are normal it is so unlikely that we probably won't go any further with that. The biopsy showed no MVD, so I asked the internist if it is still a possibility. She said not really because Dr. Powers from Colorado State did the pathology and if she didn't see it, it's not there. Of course, there is a chance that MVD is just in one spot and taking a couple pieces of the liver could have given different results, but it isn't worth putting her through surgery again. There are so many things that can make the bile acids go up that there may never be an answer. We could try Actigall but I really don't want to. It looks like we will just use Denosyl and keep doing bile acid tests to see what happens. Again, Ellie doesn't seem to be in any danger. The one area that did not look good on the U/S was her pancreas. It looked bright and angry. This is probably pancreatitis. Remember when she was throwing up the other day? That could've been it. Just five days earlier I gave her canned Innova for her bile acid test. This is 36% fat and I wasn't thinking at the time that it has turkey skin in it. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT FEEDING CANNED INNOVA OR EVO...I will never give either to a Yorkie again. Ellie is going back on fish oil for something or other. Her diet is going to be a bit trickiet now that she as way too skinny but can't have too much fat. I also want to stay away from foods that could effect her liver too much. These three things could go together and maybe not (liver, bladder, pancreas). We are going to check her triglycerides. Honestly, I can't remember most of what the internist said... So we will see what happens, but Ellie is okay!:) And Ellie's spay incision dissolvable sutures are not dissolving... Her body isn't attacking them... Strange doggie.:p |
So glad you got some more answers ;) ...did they check her knees? |

But still not too happy that it is undiagnosable. Ever seen a confused specialist?:p :p :p |
Yay good news..Izzy also had a reaction to EVO small bites dry and then I saw how high the protein was and stopped that and she never had that problem again. Glad that your baby is OK.:D |
I'm so glad you went to a specialist and felt comfortable with her!! :) It's really great to hear that Ellie will be okay :) Thanks for the update on her!! |
I'm glad everything went fine with the specialist. Praying for Ellie so any type of symptom of anything is gone gone gone. |
What a good report Ellie got from the vet! I'm glad you got such good news and now have a plan. Fingers crossed that Ellie will continue to do well! |
So good to hear nothing is wrong with her! |
GOOD news for little Ellie!!!! It must be so relieving....and then a bit frustrating too, bc I know you want an answer. After all the info, and the possible angry pancreas - where do you go next with her diet? Does she still need something special? Boy, she is lucky to have you as her Mum. :) |

I think we will stay with low protein because something is still not right with her liver...whatever that is. We have to stay low fat (we are at about 18% now which seems to be okay). She can't have a large amount of veggies to replace her fat intake because she is severely underweight (on the body condition scale from 1-10 she is a 2 or 3). I am hoping she doesn't have hyperlipidosis which would mean possibly lower carb diet.. That would be bad. Maybe if I can get a diagnosis I will do another consult with the nutritionist. |
