is something wrong I have a little 4lb yorkie. she is 19 months old.she has been spayed since she was a year old. she is a very picky eater, cant find anything she will eat.she has been in good health, except she pukes every morning.usually, not always everyday.it is just yellow and foamy a just a small amount.the vet her blood test shows her readings are a little high, but we will watch her for liver shunt.other than that she is very active and dont seem to act sick at all.but last 2 days we have noticed some blood when she pees, but not every time.is this something to be concerned about? |
Blood is the urine is a classic sign of a uti. They are extremely uncomfortable so you should take her to the vet asap. What blood test did your vet do that showed "high"? If it was only a basic blood panel and her liver values (ALT) were elevated, she needs to have a bile acids test done to see if she has a shunt or MVD. It isn't a good idea to just "wait and see" about a possible shunt. A bile acids test is very inexpensive, $40-80 depending on where you live. |

the yellow foam in the morning is probably because she has an empty stomach, and with her being a picky eater that just confirms it. The blood in the urine, i do not think is connected with the bile vomit. She should go to the vet for both these problems and have them looked into. she may have a UTI. As far as a liver shunt goes, if she was put under anesthesia once and had no problems i doubt she has a shunt. however she may have other liver problems. have them redo her blood panel and if the liver values are still high then she should get a bile acid test done. |
I would sure say something to vet about that. You want to get it all fixed and find out what the main problems are. |
Having dealt with serious liver problems with my yorkie since he was a puppy(he is 3 1/2 now), I have to say that I would most definitely have a bile acid test done...It is sensitive to liver function specifically. Abnormalities in the liver could go unnoticed without the bile acid test. This is a relatively inexpensive test and very important for yorkies with these symptoms to have done. Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have liver shunt than all other breeds combined... Your dog is showing symptoms of liver problems...Extremely picky eater, frequent vomitting, and blood in urine are all signs... Even if it's not liver shunt, it could be MVD/HMD Also, please have them do a urinalysis and have them look for ammonium biurate crystals which could be causing the blood in the urine. Blood in urine and picky eating were the first two things I noticed in my dog right before I took him in for a bile acid test. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I feel it is important that you have this information. |
The blood in the urine could be caused by a bladder stone. I would get her checked out. |
I agree with Ladymom and Yorkieluv. It is very likely a UTI but it could also be stones. I would not take a chance. Please get her checked. The yellow foam in the morning is probably just bile from an empty stomach but it could be a liver problem. I would not just wait and see. What are her blood panel results? |
