Safe flea treatment? Puddin' went to the groomer's today and returned with the verdict that he had FLEAS  . *I* didn't see any, he wasn't scratching, but they said he needed a dip. So, if he has fleas, I need to do something for him. I've been trying to keep him as chemical-free as possible, so I'm really not sure what I/he should be using that's consistent with that goal. Suggestions? |

I would give him a bath in Dawn dish soap and that should kill all the live ones. The maybe use something on your carpet? If all natural remedies fail I would ask the if they could recommend a pyrethrin (not permethrin) because they are some of the safer pesticides but I'm not sure what flea treatments are made from it. If all else fails I would probably go to Frontline but I agree. The less chemicals the better. I don't use any flea products at the moment and Ellie is flea free.:) |

I wouldn't use a dip. As already said, a good bath with Dawn original...be sure to wash thoroughly under arms and neck and top of head and under and around tail. I have actually seen the fleas fall off of Murfee. My vet said to use the Adams spray on his feet and tummy when he goes outside. She said it wasn't dangerous and I could use it often. Good luck. |

I know what you mean about trying to stay away from unnecessary pesticides ....some one posted this link to make flea repellents with oils.....I haven't tried any yet so I can't say how well they work..... http://lowchensaustralia.com/pests/bites2.htm |
