I Finally Took Her To The Vet... For Her Thinning Hair On Her Back Legs...they Think She Is Having An Allergic Reaction To Her Food...i Was Giving Her Purina (i Know They Suck)...they Want Me To Try Science Diet Z/d Low Allergien Dry #8 And Also Told Me To Use Benadryl Dye Free To See What Happens...has Anyone Else Dealth With Allergic Reactions And These Products |
They will automatically recommend Science Diet because they sell it and don't know a thing about nutrition. My dog has reactions to one or two foods. Depending on what is in the food you are giving now, I would change foods and not give those ingredients (especially corn and wheat). It might take 60 days to notice an itching difference while the body cleanses itself. The Benadryl is fine. I would be hesitant to use Z/D because this isn't necessary. There are three forms of Z/D and two of them have propyl Gallate, BHA and ethoxyquin. |
no wheat...we use to give her pieces of wheat bread and now she won't touch it... how often should i give her benadryl? they said give her 4mg for a week or so I really ddon't care too much for science diet...what are some other brands that may help? |
If it were me, I would absolutely not feed SciDi anything - it really not a great line. I would choose a premium kibble/canned that contains low allergens and see what happens. I'd use benadryl sparingly - only at the worst of times - bc otherwise you won't be able to see if the new food is making a difference. Good kibbles and canned are: Evangers, Natures Variety, Wellness, Wysong, Orijen, Innova. You want to look for grain free, for sure. You could also go raw, which can produce great results in allergy dogs - but some aren't comfortable with it. |
Keep The Info Coming Guys...thanx!!!!!!!! |
Wheat is a major allergen. It is okay for some, not for others. What are the ingredients in the food you feed now? I bet the problem is corn. I would go with Natural Balance Duck and potato or Wellness or some of the ones Wylie's Mom listed. Well, actually I would homecook.:) I strongly suggest staying away from beef if your dog already has allergies. This could be the most popular allergen. |

SHE WAS EATING PURINA WHAT ARE THE KEY INGREDIENTS TO LOOK FOR AND WHAT TO STAY AWAY FROM...SHE HAD CORN LAST NIGHT THEY KNEW I WAS GONNA GIVE HERMIXED VEGGIES AND SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT |
What type of Purina (they have a zillion kinds)? |
She Just Started The Bentiful Kind...she Was On Puppy Chow Before And Beofre That Science Diet Which She Really Didn't Care For And She Eats anything |
You might want to try going grain free now. The Honest Kitchen freeze-dired raw has two grain-free products. It is supposed to be really good for pups with allergies and other digestive issues. I have loved the change in my Sissy's coat with it. I highly recommend it and it is easy to use as well. |

Ground yellow corn: allergen Chicken by-product meal: is this good organ meat or feathers and toenails? It is also a possible allergen. That doesn't mean don't feed chicken. Just make sure your dog can handle it (along with all the other possible allergens). Corn gluten meal: allergen Whole wheat flour: allergen Animal fat: what animal? Beef: allergen Soy flour: allergen Sugar: higher on the list than carrots:confused: Animal digest: what animal? Added color: these can be carcinogens and are not healthy Menadione: synthetic vitamin K with possible side effects I used to feed Science Diet until I found out what is in it. No more of that for us. |

I AM SO CONFUSED NOW...I REALLY DON'T LIKE SCIENCE DIET BUT ALL THESE DIFFERENT SUGGESTIONS 9WHICH ARE GREAT AND I ASKED FOR) HAS NME CONFUSED ON HOW TO CHOOSE |
Beau was diagnoised with terrible food alleriges too. They wanted me to switch him to Science Diet H/Z and it just made him WAY worse! He was throwing it up and just looked SICK SICK SICK!! Beau and Lexie are on Innova Evo and they LOVE IT! It is grain free. You can get it online or in my case I have a great animal supply store about 30 minutes from my house. Good luck! |
The Honest Kitchen has a website you could check out if you are going that way. I homecook. If I didn't I would feed Evangers canned most likely. |
