I'm sure someone here will answer you soon. I don't know that much about it myself. Good luck. |
There is surgery for prolapsed trachea. They can put a coil in to hold the trachea open that seems to work well. According to the website I read, most dogs that finally have the surgery are in such bad shape by the time they have the surgery that it doesn't have a high level of success for that reason. So I wouldn't put off having it assessed by the vet. You also have to take into account whether your dog is very small which makes things more difficult or whether it is standard sized. |
My shelby had that problem starting about age 3 but it was very low in the trachea and were not sure if the surgery would make things better or worse. He did end up with heart problems but yorkies are prone to that in latter years. 3 of mine had heart problems but 2 of them were controlled with meds. My first question is are you using a collar or harness if you are walking him on a leash...please please get rid of the collar and use a harness. I truly believe that is why Shelby's collapsed. They have weak trachea's and are proned to this and they way he pulled and tugged on his lease it's no wonder. The thing is when they get excited and start panting, they already have trouble getting air and this only makes it worse. Check with you vet and maybe get a specialist opinion if you have one in your area. |
