I made them some..... I had been hearing about these natural treats for our babies, like the sweet potato treats and such. So last night I decided to dehydrate some sliced sweet potatos for them. They love them. They eat it like candy!!!!! The question I have is howm many do you think they can have a day (slices) and if anyone else makes them do you put anything on the slices before dehydrating. Also what else can I make for them. What veggies or fruit. I made these because I don't like giving them rawhide, my male is a hard chewer and gets pieces off very quickly, and everthing is from China! or hurts their bellies. Thanks for any help!!!! |
Yummmmmmmy! That does sound better than processed Chinese garbage.:) |
I would be careful as to how much you gave them, since too much dried fruit can cause diarrhea. It really depends on how thick the slices are, and how big the sweet potatoes are-just use your best judgement. If they get upset tummies, don't give them any for a few days, and give less in the future. I bet they'd also like dried apples, bananas, carrot slices, zucchini slices, strawberries, peaches-as long as you remove the peel and seeds from fruit. Vegetable peels are usually ok. As a reminder, don't give any onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, or chocolate, as they are toxic to dogs. I give my two a whole organic carrot for chewing-they chew it just like they would a bone, and I'm sure it's good for their teeth. Just an idea for you :) |
I sliced the potatoes pretty thin and only gave them one each today. I will see how it does with their bellies before I give them any more. My babies don't like carrots but I will try apples and bananas since I have them here already. What about white potatoes? Would you put anything on them like honey or anything or just leave them as they are? |
I don't know how many you can give them, but I'd love your recipie. |
I have a dehydrator that we use for jerky. I peeled the sweet potatoes and sliced them thin and put them in the dehydrator. I think you can also put them in the oven at 250 and then turn it down to 150 for about 8 hours. It took about 7-8 hours in the dehydrator. We had only used the dehydrator for jerky but with all of the crap out there for our babies now I will be using it alot more. |
That's a great idea, thanks! :) |
